Job summary

Advanced Micro Instruments, Inc. is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to own the existing and new manufacturing and test processes for sensors and analyzers.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Product Management to ensure manufacturability, reliability, and cost effectiveness. Responsibilities include developing and documenting processes, supporting production, leading improvement projects, and ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering or related.
• 5–10 years of manufacturing engineering experience for highly engineered products.
• Proven ability to transfer products from engineering to volume production.
• Experience leading process improvements and root cause investigations.
• Experience with automated test equipment (ATE), test fixtures, and data acquisition systems.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks and ability to produce engineering drawings.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 and GD&T.

Responsibilities

Job description

The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with practical manufacturing experience. They will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Product Management teams to ensure products are manufacturable, reliable, cost-effective, and capable of meeting customer expectations for quality and delivery. They will be the owner of both the existing and new manufacturing and test process for sensor and analyzers.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Process Development & Support

• Develop, document, maintain, and continuously improve manufacturing processes, work instructions, assembly procedures, and test methods.
• Support day-to-day production operations by resolving manufacturing issues that impact quality, throughput, safety, or delivery.
• Lead process improvement projects focused on productivity, quality, cost reduction, and operational efficiency.
• Evaluate and implement the best manufacturing practices, fixtures, tooling, and automation opportunities.
• Be a champion of manufacturing process that meet AMI’s standards for safety, quality and regulatory compliance.

Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions

• Investigate manufacturing, supplier, and field quality issues.
• Lead structured root cause analysis activities using methodologies such as 8D, Fishbone Analysis, 5 Why, FMEA, Statistical Analysis
• Implement corrective and preventive actions to improve product quality and reliability.
• Analyze manufacturing metrics and data trends to identify recurring issues and improvement opportunities.

Product Transfer & Design for Manufacturing

• Lead the transition of new products from Engineering into production.
• Collaborate with design engineers to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, and cost.
• Participate in design reviews and provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) recommendations.
• Develop production readiness plans, validation protocols, and manufacturing release documentation.

Test Systems & Equipment Support

• Support production electrical and mechanical test systems used for analyzer calibration, validation, and final acceptance testing.
• Troubleshoot and improve automated test stations, fixtures, and manufacturing equipment.
• Coordinate maintenance, calibration, upgrades, and documentation of production test equipment.
• Assist in developing new test methodologies and production verification processes.

Mechanical Design & Tooling

• Design and maintain manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and work-holding devices.
• Create and modify 3D models and drawings using SolidWorks.
• Generate manufacturing drawings, assembly documentation, and engineering change packages.
• Evaluate production ergonomics, safety, and workflow optimization opportunities.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support CAPA activities and quality system requirements.
• Participate in Kaizen events and process optimization activities.
• Develop KPIs and monitor manufacturing performance indicators.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's of Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience with a related technical degree.
• 5-10 years of manufacturing engineering experience in positions supporting production of highly engineered products.
• Proven experience transferring products from engineering development into volume production.
• Experience leading manufacturing process improvements and root cause investigations.
• Experience with automated test equipment (ATE), test fixtures, and data acquisition systems.
• Technical Skills
• Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software.
• Ability to produce engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including:
• Precision machining
• Sheet metal fabrication
• Assembly operations
• Electrical assembly
• Test and calibration systems
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and Engineering Change processes.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and mechanical design principles.
• Experience with electrical troubleshooting using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and data acquisition systems
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems.
• Knowledge of programming languages such as, LabVIEW, C#, or SQL.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with gas analyzers, instrumentation, sensors, or industrial process control products.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Experience with automated manufacturing test systems.
• Experience working in a low-to-medium volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Process FMEA.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
• Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, and work around manufacturing equipment for extended periods.
• Occasional travel to suppliers and customer sites as required.
