Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Kings Bay, GA, is seeking an experienced shipboard electrical technician for maintenance and modernization on submarines. You will work on electrical installation, testing, and modifications across ship systems and equipment.

The role requires reading electrical drawings, adherence to NAVSEA instructions, and strong safety practices in both shipboard and shop settings. Travel up to 11 months may be required and a DoD SECRET clearance is needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 1+ year shipyard or Navy involvement with repair, installation and/or testing of ships systems and components.
• Must be able to work all shifts.
• Must be able to climb and descend ladders.
• Must be available for travel to offsite facilities up to 11 months per assignment.
• Must be able to obtain a DoD SECRET security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Install and remove cables in cableways, including confined spaces.
• Apply electrical trade knowledge; read diagrams and install/modify power panels and transformers.
• Maintain teamwork to meet quality benchmarks and schedule performance.
• Work with shipboard electrical components (power, signal cables, distribution panels).
• Use power and hand tools and electrical test equipment as required.

Job description

Overview

This position supports D707 Maintenance & Modernization in Kings Bay, GA, in addition to projects being worked at other sites.

This job requires experience with Electrical installation, operation and/or testing of multiple ships systems on all classes of submarines. Selected individuals will be responsible for performing work in/on electrical systems in accordance with Task Group Instructions (TGIs). Successful candidate should have thorough working knowledge of ships systems and equipment. Candidates must be flexible as well as adaptable in a team environment. This position requires the candidate to work in both shipboard and shop environments.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Installation and removal of cables in cableways both in open and tight spaces
• Appling electrical trade knowledge while conducting daily tasking. This includes showing proficiency at reading and understanding electrical drawings and diagrams, the installation and removal of cables, power panel and transformer modifications, and the understanding and importance of electrical safety and electromagnetic interference in accordance with approved methods and NAVSEA instructions.
• Working within a team environment to accomplish company goals, such as meeting quality benchmarks and schedule performance.
• Working within a wide variety of electrical components, including standard wiring and fiber.
• Having acute attention to detail and a first-time quality mentality

• Climbing and ascending ladders to traverse on and off the submarines as well as utilizing them to complete specific tasks

Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or GED
• 1+ year's shipyard or Navy involvement with repair, installation and/or testing of ships systems and components
• Must be able to work all shifts.

Preferred:

• Knowledge of shipbuilding processes, marine systems, and military procedures/specifications.
• Prior shipyard experience, including electrical/electronic trades, missile or sonar technician roles, or shipyard test organization work.
• Experience in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical/electronic systems.
• Hands-on experience with installation and maintenance of shipboard systems, including power/signal cable runs, switchboards, distribution panels, and related components.
• Proficiency with power and hand tools; ability to work with precision measuring equipment.

Skills

• Experience working with NAVSEA/Ships drawings, technical manuals, and/or Ships Systems Manuals in the performance of work tasks.
• Demonstrated strong communication skills and experience with working to verbal and written instructions.
