Job summary

Applied Composites is seeking an Entry-Level Composite Technician for 3rd shift in Indianapolis, IN. You will place resin-impregnated fabrics onto layup molds, prepare materials, and ensure quality layups for curing, while working with the team to meet manufacturing travelers.

The role requires reading instructions in English, basic math, and strong mechanical aptitude, with on-the-job training for aerospace standards. Overtime may apply.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Read and follow basic instructions and diagrams in English.
  • Follow shop practices and quality standards in aerospace manufacturing.
  • Layup materials to molds and remove air pockets with tools.
  • Prepare molds and layups for transfer to the autoclave department.
  • Build semi-complex ply-buildups under supervision and ensure proper compaction.
  • Vacuum bag parts and monitor for leaks during cure.
  • Maintain attendance and work third shift hours (11:30 PM–8:00 AM).

Salary Range: $25.00 To $30.00 Hourly

The Composite Technician 3rd Shift,places resin pre-impregnated fabrics and tapes onto layup molds using hands, wrists, and arms to apply pressure and remove air pockets; requires knowledge of fabric direction and ply orientation. Handles prepare adhesive, core, and other layup materials. Cuts vacuum bag materials and creates vacuum bags. Prepares parts for transfer to the autoclave department. Ensures layups and vacuum bags are prepared according to the requirements of manufacturing travelers. The technician learns quickly, works quickly, does not make mistakes often, perform high-quality work, works well with others, and is focused on completing the task.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions
  • Read and follow basic instructions and diagrams in English
  • Use basic shop math skills to record information such as freezer out-time, or mixture weights
  • Follow standard shop practices and quality standards in the aerospace industry
  • Prepare molds using shop-approved release agents
  • Layup materials to molds and remove air pockets using approved hands, squeegees, and heat guns.
  • Occasionally mix resins and catalysts as specified
  • Trim laminated fabric using scissors or knives without damaging the layup mold
  • Perform physical and environmental checks and document work for manufacturing travelers
  • Builds semi-complex ply-buildups under minimal supervision, ensuring that the plies are well-compacted
  • Vacuum bag parts applying best practices, ensuring that the vacuum bags do not leak during cure
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance is required.
  • Must be able to work 3rd shift hours - 11:30p-8:00am plus overtime as necessary.

Education

Requires a High School Diploma/GED or combination of relevant education and work experience may be substituted to meet educational requirements only.

Experience
