The Machining Supervisor is responsible for the safe and cost-effective operation of the production line in support of the company’s products. The Supervisor is a first-line supervisor with authority and responsibility for the Production Line, product cost, budget, scheduling, and quality programs. This position will work closely with the operations manager, manufacturing engineer, and design engineering personnel to achieve the highest quality parts in the most cost-effective manner.
Responsibilities:
Production Scheduling:
- Provides inputs to planning department on production schedules and goals. Implements daily, weekly, and monthly schedules for all work centers and employees.
- Monitors production goals, manages employee and work center performance to support sales.
- Ensures personnel are trained and understand manufacturing process demands and flow.
- Participates in scheduled production meetings with current job status updates.
- Prepares and shares weekly status reports on production trends and effectiveness.
- Keeps machine programs updated and available to support existing and new products.
- Supports Sales and Engineering with manufacturing capabilities and limitations.
Training:
- Establishes training programs for employee growth and development.
- Develops skill assessment charts and metrics for employees.
- Implements cross-training programs to improve department versatility and reduce downtime.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Enforces attendance, appearance, and performance standards.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Builds rapport with employees to ensure safety and performance.
- Ensures accurate activity recording in ERP systems.
- Uses controls to manage costs and prevent waste, theft, and fraud.
- Supports employee growth and administers counseling when needed.
- Maintains tooling stock and performs machining duties when necessary.
Required Skills & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
- Experience with ERP software, MS Office, CNC programming, and CAD software.
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience, with leadership in machining preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
Physical Demands:
- Onsite presence required; frequent standing, handling, reaching, talking, and hearing.
- Occasional walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, up to 100 pounds occasionally.
Work Environment/Conditions:
- Primarily indoors, with some outdoor work and limited travel.
- May involve remote access, evening, or weekend work.
- Moderate noise level; occasional work near moving mechanical parts.
