Qualifications

• Quick thinker with the ability to adapt to new situations and absorb new information.
• Demonstrated record of successful safety performance.
• Strong leadership skills, including contributing to and enhancing teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe work area for employees and ensure training and support; monitor cleanliness.
• Manage a team accountable for production, safety, and housekeeping within the department.
• Ensure quality goals are achieved and communicate with upstream/downstream departments.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives by evaluating processes and driving improvements.
• Drive proactive safety behavior and accountability through coaching and feedback.

Accountabilities

• Responsible for providing a safe work area for employees and ensuring employees receive appropriate training and support. Cleanliness expectations are assigned and monitored.
• Consistently achieve success relative to department KPIs and goals, asking for support when needed.
• Manage a team accountable for all production, safety, and housekeeping within the assigned department.
• Ensure quality goals are achieved within the department. This requires excellent communication with other departments that deliver raw materials or receive department output.
• Serve as a catalyst of continuous improvement by challenging quality, safety and production through project justification, goal setting and cause and effect relationships.
• Be a driver of proactive safety behavior by leading by example, holding employees accountable for unsafe practices.
• Actively engage in safety initiatives to continually communicate comprehensive and interactive safety protocols that target and identify safety hazards.
• Effectively and efficiently manage labor costs in the department through overtime and shift scheduling.
• Actively engage all employees to ensure teamwork, alignment of the team to goals, effective training and resolution of problems. Work with employees to understand their long-term career goals and develop their progression.
• Monitor and track supplies, expenses and repairs to maximize mill production and quality while minimizing costs.
• Innovatively approach problems to determine effective solutions while challenging the status quo.
• Hold direct reports accountable to expectations and goals through expectation setting, coaching, and written feedback.

Qualifications

• External candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years in a supervisory or leadership role with strong safety and CI experience. Internal candidates can be trained if they have demonstrated leadership abilities and an understanding of mill functions and departments.
• Ability to foster and lead a "can-do" while ensuring safety and quality within the department and mill.
• Quick thinker with the ability to adapt to new situations and proficient at absorbing and comprehending new information.
• Demonstrated record of successful safety performance.
• Possess strong leadership skills, including contributing to and enhancing teams.
• Basic computer skills.
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
