Job description

The Manufacturing Team Leader is responsible for leading and supervising a team of production workers to ensure efficient and effective manufacturing operations. This role involves overseeing daily production activities, ensuring adherence to quality standards, managing performance, and fostering a safe and collaborative work environment. The Team Leader will work closely with other departments, including quality assurance, maintenance, and logistics, to meet production goals and ensure continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of production associates to meet daily, weekly, and monthly production goals.
  • Assign work tasks and monitor team performance, providing coaching and feedback as necessary.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, ensuring effective communication and teamwork.
  • Ensure that all team members are adequately trained on processes, safety procedures, and equipment.

Production Management:

  • Oversee daily manufacturing operations to ensure productivity, quality, and safety standards are met.
  • Monitor and adjust production schedules as needed to accommodate changes in demand, machine availability, or resource constraints.
  • Ensure that manufacturing processes are followed correctly and any deviations are reported or corrected immediately.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as production output, downtime, and quality metrics.

Quality Control:

  • Ensure products meet the required quality standards and that all processes are compliant with industry regulations.
  • Collaborate with the quality assurance team to resolve any product quality issues, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure adherence to safety, quality, and operational procedures.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:

  • Promote and enforce a culture of safety within the team, ensuring compliance with all company and regulatory safety standards.
  • Monitor the work environment for potential hazards and ensure that all team members use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Address and resolve safety concerns promptly, conducting safety training and leading safety meetings.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction within the manufacturing process.
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives, such as lean manufacturing or 5S, to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving activities to resolve production challenges.

Inventory and Materials Management:

  • Work closely with inventory and material planning teams to ensure materials are available for production.
  • Monitor stock levels and coordinate with relevant departments to avoid production delays.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of raw materials and finished goods.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to production, employee performance, and equipment maintenance.
  • Provide regular updates to management regarding production progress, challenges, and team performance.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in a manufacturing or production environment, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership role.
  • Familiarity with production processes, machinery, and quality control techniques.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and develop employees.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively manage a team and interact with other departments.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with manufacturing software or systems (e.g., ERP, MES).

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift items up to [insert weight] pounds.
