Job description

We are currently seeking candidates for a Manufacturing Specialist with experience in the insurance, loss control, and safety industry. This person will support our Michigan underwriting operations within the Risk Consulting Department, serving as an integral part of our value-added services for commercial insurance policyholders. The position reports to the Michigan Risk Consulting Branch Manager and supports our Michigan territory, with periodic travel outside the state. Occasional regional travel is required, including overnight stays 2-3 nights per month. This is a work from home position outside of local and regional client engagements.

The primary focus is to understand client operations to assist our underwriting team; advise clients on best practices related to their operations and programs (such as property evaluations for large locations, new construction projects, sprinkler plan reviews, and internal guideline development); help clients identify hazards and recommend improvements; and discuss Chubb's risk consulting services to meet client needs and improve loss ratios. On-site visits with existing and prospective clients will be conducted, with comprehensive reports evaluating hazards and controls for risk assessment, pricing, and underwriting techniques to support profitable growth.

Day-to-day activities include scheduling client visits, processing correspondence and inquiries, completing reports, following up on recommendations, and coordinating with claims and underwriting partners to ensure excellent service, risk selection, and client retention.

Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety & Health, or relevant risk control/loss control experience.
  2. Relevant professional designations such as ASP, CSP, PE, or ARM are desirable but not required.
  3. 8+ years of experience in property insurance risk management and loss prevention.
  4. Deep knowledge of manufacturing industry practices, including underwriting strategies, regulations, emerging technologies, exposures, litigation, loss history, and risk assessment methods.
  5. Ability to analyze manufacturing exposures and controls across applicable lines of business.
  6. Experience in counseling and presenting risk control topics to clients.
  7. Experience in servicing large customers across industries like industrial, food processing, life sciences, ethanol, biodiesel, warehousing, and power generation.
  8. Training and mentoring skills, including property conservation, standards writing, and reviews for NAT/CAT events like wind, hail, flood, earthquake, and wildfire.
  9. Effective communication skills for technical information to diverse audiences.
  10. Initiative, time management, and ability to work independently and in teams.
  11. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat; familiarity with Excel and PowerPoint is preferred.
