Responsibilities of a Scheduler in a Manufacturing Facility:

A Scheduler coordinates production schedules, ensures efficient workflow, and meets customer demands while optimizing resources.

1. Production Planning & Scheduling
  • Develop and maintain production schedules based on demand, inventory levels, and resource availability.
  • Adjust schedules to accommodate changes in order volume, raw material availability, or equipment issues.
  • Collaborate with production managers to prioritize tasks for efficiency.
  • Align schedules with company goals and delivery deadlines.
2. Coordination & Communication
  • Liaise between departments such as production, procurement, logistics, and quality assurance.
  • Communicate schedule updates to relevant teams.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely raw material delivery.
  • Work with warehouse and shipping teams for on-time order fulfillment.
3. Resource Allocation & Optimization
  • Allocate labor, equipment, and materials efficiently to prevent bottlenecks.
  • Monitor workforce availability and adjust schedules accordingly.
  • Ensure machinery utilization to prevent downtime and improve efficiency.
4. Inventory & Material Management
  • Track raw material and finished goods levels to ensure sufficient stock.
  • Collaborate with procurement to avoid shortages or overstocking.
  • Implement JIT inventory strategies when applicable.
5. Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
  • Monitor production performance against schedules and targets.
  • Identify and resolve scheduling conflicts or delays.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Maintain records of production metrics for future planning.
6. Compliance & Reporting
  • Ensure scheduling activities comply with policies, safety regulations, and standards.
  • Prepare reports on production status and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of schedules and work orders.
7. Software & Technology Utilization
  • Utilize Smartsheet for project planning and real-time collaboration.
  • Use Epicor ERP for production planning and inventory management.
  • Implement automated scheduling tools to improve accuracy.
  • Stay updated with new scheduling technologies and best practices.
