Job Description
The Project Quality Engineer will be responsible for leading quality initiatives, managing inspection plans, and ensuring compliance with industry standards in precision manufacturing. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement, support new product development, and oversee quality control activities for projects spanning medical, defense, and aerospace industries. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in quality engineering and inspection planning, with the ability to analyze and resolve quality-related challenges effectively.

What You’ll Do:
- Lead Quality Initiatives: Drive quality at the source by encouraging all team members to take ownership of the products they work on.
- Customer-Focused Solutions: Collaborate with customers to review non-conformances, lead root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions that ensure their satisfaction.
- Hands-On Leadership: Oversee in-process, receiving, and final inspections, becoming the go-to expert in gage selection, calibration, and training for operators.
- Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in identifying and driving opportunities for process improvement, ensuring we stay ahead of industry standards.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Suppliers to resolve product quality issues and ensure smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain inspection plans that align with company and customer requirements.
- Ensure adherence to AS9100, ISO 9001, and other industry-specific quality standards.
- Lead quality planning efforts for new product introductions and engineering changes.
- Manage NPI sales orders from contract review, inspection planning, processing, and AS9102 FAI.
- Coordinate and oversee first article inspections (FAI), process validations, and capability studies.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to establish robust quality control processes.
- Investigate root causes of nonconformities and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Support supplier quality initiatives and drive improvement programs with vendors.
- Develop and maintain documentation, including quality plans, control plans, and work instructions.
- Train and mentor quality inspectors, production staff, and engineers in best practices for quality assurance.
- Utilize statistical analysis tools to monitor and improve manufacturing processes.
- Act as the primary liaison for customer audits, regulatory inspections, and internal quality audits.
- Assist in managing compliance requests and ensuring timely responses.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
- Processing RMA’s (Return Material Authorization).
Your Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 3 to 5 years of experience in quality engineering, inspection planning, or a related role in manufacturing.
- Leadership skills and experience managing a team.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, metrology, and inspection methodologies.
- Proficiency with quality management systems (QMS) and standards such as AS9100 and ISO 9001.
- Experience with inspection planning tools such as SolidWorks, InspectionXpert and Excel.
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC), capability studies, and measurement system analysis (MSA).
- Hands-on experience with CMMs, vision systems, and other precision measurement equipment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems (Epicor preferred).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Six Sigma, ASQ CQE, or related quality disciplines.
- Experience in medical, aerospace, or defense manufacturing.
- Familiarity with risk management tools such as FMEA and control plans.
- Knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes, including CNC machining and additive manufacturing.
