Job summary

CPS, Inc. is seeking a Controller in Naperville, IL to oversee accounting and financial reporting for a diverse manufacturing and project-based environment.

You will lead day-to-day accounting operations and collaborate with senior leadership to drive financial insight and performance. The ideal candidate has experience in manufacturing, construction, or project-based accounting and a strong grasp of cost accounting, budgeting, and inventory management.

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate will have prior manufacturing, construction, industrial, or project-based accounting experience and a strong understanding of cost accounting, job/project costing, inventory, budgeting, and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
• Direct the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes and ensure financial statements are completed accurately and timely.
• Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, management reports, and financial performance metrics.
• Develop and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash flow projections, and financial planning activities.
• Monitor company financial performance and provide management with meaningful analysis, trends, and recommendations.
• Manage and improve cost accounting and job/project costing processes, including analysis of labor, materials, overhead, and other direct and indirect costs.
• For manufacturing operations, oversee inventory accounting, standard costs, variances, cycle counts, and inventory valuation.
• For construction/project-based operations, monitor project profitability, work-in-progress reporting, job costs, billings, retainage, and percentage-of-completion accounting as applicable.
• Review and analyze gross margins, operating expenses, project performance, and other key financial indicators.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, company accounting policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate annual audits, tax-related reporting, insurance audits, and other external financial requirements.
• Work closely with operations, project management, purchasing, sales, and other departments to improve financial processes and business performance.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting capabilities, efficiencies, and cost controls.
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff while establishing clear expectations and accountability.
• Assist senior leadership with financial modeling, capital expenditure analysis, business planning, and strategic initiatives.
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure appropriate controls are in place to safeguard company assets.
• Perform other financial and accounting duties as assigned.
