Job summary

Trivium Packaging is seeking a production operator for a high-volume, highly automated facility in the Roanoke area. You will operate and maintain equipment, ensure safety, quality, and on-time delivery, and support continuous improvements.

Responsibilities include safety leadership, quality control with gauges, and data entry into quality systems. The role requires flexibility for 12-hour shifts, weekend work, and overtime, with a focus on reliability and strict adherence to policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read drawings and work instructions with attention to detail.
  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing preferred.
  • Willingness to work long shifts, weekends, and overtime.

  • Operate within SOPs, HACCP, GMPs and other standards; assist with installs and trials.
  • Provide break relief and operate forklifts as required.

Job description

Role Overview

Reporting to the Operations Team Lead, you will operate and maintain automated production equipment to meet safety, quality, cost, and delivery goals in a high-volume setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety leadership: follow policies, complete 5S/housekeeping and vehicle checks, and actively report incidents and near-misses within the plant Safety Program.
  • Quality ownership: uphold Positive Release standards; use gauges and inspection tools; identify defects, adjust equipment, document findings, and enter data into quality systems.
  • Production control: run multiple machines in continuous production; prevent stoppages, minimize waste, and sustain OEE.
  • Documentation: complete required charting and production records accurately and on time.
  • Improvement mindset: propose process enhancements and support CI teams to reduce operating costs and eliminate waste.
  • Compliance: work to the BRC Food Safety Policy, GMPs, HACCP Principle, ISO14001, and OSHA requirements.
  • Standards development: contribute to drafting and refining SOPs and work instructions.
  • Automation: operate within highly automated cells, including robotic equipment.
  • Reliability: perform and record daily/weekly/monthly maintenance activities.
  • Projects: assist with trial runs (SMA’s), equipment installs, overhauls, and upgrades.
  • Support: operate forklifts as required and provide break relief.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanical aptitude; strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and organizational abilities; attention to detail.
  • 2 years’ high-volume manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer/math skills to interpret drawings, review specifications and work instructions, and report line performance.
  • Working knowledge of measurement and inspection devices.
  • Willingness to work 8- or 12-hour shifts, day or off-shifts, plus weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Adaptability to evolving initiatives.
Physical Requirements & Schedule
  • Average workweek alternates 36/48 hours; usual shift is 12 hours.
  • Regular standing and walking; frequent reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; occasional non-permit-required confined space work (with training).
  • Frequently lift/move up to 50 lbs; good hand/eye coordination; close and distance vision with color recognition.

Environment & Special Hazards
  • Very loud environment—hearing protection and assigned PPE required.
  • Temperatures may range from very cold to approximately 95 degrees; potential exposure to fumes, dust, and odors.

  • Daily work near hazardous and explosive chemicals.
