In this role you'll have an opportunity to drive key projects in the areas of process efficiency, automation, process control, variability reduction, incoming and outgoing material characterization, and equipment definition by understanding process challenges, opportunities, and limitations.

When Leupold & Stevens states our products are, "Designed, Machined, and Assembled in the USA," it is largely due to our relentless focus on manufacturing innovation. This has been at the heart of our Company for over 118 years. We manufacture our products right here in Beaverton, Oregon, which sets us apart from all others. This is a legacy we have the privilege to uphold for future generations. This role is at the center of protecting that legacy by ensuring that future products continue to outperform, out‑inspire, and outlast all others in the field.

  • Profit sharing
  • And great product discounts (to name a few)
What You'll Be Doing as a Manufacturing Engineer:
  • Consult on engineering projects related to new product introductions, product redesigns and process improvements (CNC milling).
  • Provide technical input and support to production teams.
  • Independently research, justify and initiate designs for tooling, gauges, manufacturing, and assembly systems.
  • Ensure product quality and conformance to specifications.
  • Consult and troubleshoot complex production processes requiring straightforward technical solutions for both internal and vendor‑supplied components.
  • Partner with team members on applying state‑of‑the‑art technologies for manufacturing components, assembly processes, and Lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Monitor and execute the development of new components or assemblies.
  • Design and develop moderately complex tools and fixtures to enhance manufacturing (CNC milling/assembly operations).
  • Negotiate product component designs to accommodate cost‑effective technologies.
  • Provide support and guidance to Manufacturing Engineering Technicians in developing CNC processes and test criteria for manufactured components.
  • Create and document standard work and procedures within the Manufacturing and Assembly areas.
  • Evaluate machinery and manufacturing capital requirements, establish financial impact, and perform cost justification to ensure cost effectiveness of new equipment.
  • Participate in process improvement projects with cross‑functional team members. May lead small stand‑alone projects or segments of larger projects.
  • Interact with suppliers, vendors, consultants, and contract engineers to obtain services or support.
Skills and Experience You'll Need as a Manufacturing Engineer:
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or closely related field, plus 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in tool design, machine technology and CNC parts manufacturing.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge and experience in manufacturing with exposure to CNC machining/programming (5‑axis milling preferred).
  • Working knowledge of project management, new product introduction, demand flow, lean manufacturing, quality control and ergonomics methodologies and applications.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) product costing; labor standards, statistics, process flow analysis, and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and effectively present information and respond to questions from managers as well as technical and non‑technical professionals.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across functions to achieve outcomes that support business objectives.
