Job summary

ZF Group in Michigan is seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer to plan, implement, and maintain stable production processes that ensure quality and throughput on assembly lines. You will lead process activities for new product launches, from tooling to automation, and drive production readiness.

The role requires a bachelor's in engineering, hands-on experience, and strong knowledge of process documentation, SPC, DoE, and AutoCAD.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 2 years of manufacturing or design experience (internship/co-op included).
  • Gear manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills; proficient in MS Office, SPC, DoE, Minitab and basics of auto parts manufacturing.
  • Knowledgeable in CNC Turning Machine Programs, Mistake Proofing and Problem-Solving Techniques, SPC.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D and 3D design for drawings.
  • Self-directed and willing to work any shift.
  • Authorized to work in the United States now and in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process engineering activities for new product launches, including APQP, PPAP, tooling, fixtures, measurement systems, automation, and production readiness.
  • Plan, install, and optimize manufacturing cells, equipment, CNC programs, gage programs, and production processes to improve quality, productivity, cycle time, and OEE.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve process documentation (Control Plans, PFMEAs, Process Flows, Standard Work).
  • Conduct capability studies, Gage R&R (MSA), SPC analyses, audits, PDCA, and 8D investigations for quality improvements.
  • Investigate and resolve manufacturing, equipment, and quality issues including non-conforming products and customer complaints.
  • Manage tooling, fixtures, gauges, spare parts, and inventory; support cost reduction and energy initiatives.
  • Train and support production, maintenance, leadership, and new employees on processes and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Design Eng, Supplier Quality, Maintenance, Logistics, Planning, and OEM customers to drive improvements.

Job description

The Manufacturing Process Engineer plans, implements, and maintains stable, capable production processes that support product and process quality and throughput, while monitoring and resolving issues on assembly and manufacturing lines.

What you can look forward to as Manufacturing Process Engineer:
  • Lead manufacturing process engineering activities for new product launches, including APQP, PPAP, tooling, fixtures, measurement systems, automation, and production readiness.

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve process documentation, including Control Plans, PFMEAs, Process Flow Maps, Standard Work Instructions, and technical standards.
  • Conduct quality and process improvement initiatives through capability studies, Gage R&R (MSA), SPC analysis, audits, PDCA methodologies, and corrective action processes such as 8D investigations.
  • Investigate and resolve manufacturing, equipment, and quality issues, including non-conforming products, customer complaints, audit findings, and process deviations.
  • Manage tooling, fixtures, gauges, spare parts, and inventory while supporting cost reduction, energy efficiency, and supplier sourcing initiatives.
  • Train and support production, maintenance, leadership teams, and new employees on manufacturing processes, quality requirements, and operational best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Quality, Design Engineering, Supplier Quality, Maintenance, Logistics, Planning, and OEM customers to drive continuous improvement and achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
Your Profile as Manufacturing Process Engineer:
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering.
  • 2 years of manufacturing or design experience (internship/co-op included)
  • Gear manufacturing experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills- must be proficient in MS Office, SPC, DoE, Minitab and understanding of basics of auto parts manufacturing
  • Knowledgeable in areas of CNC Turning Machine Programs, Mistake Proofing and Problem-Solving Techniques, SPC, specific software on the production equipment.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D and 3D design for the purpose of creating drawings.
  • Must be self-directed and be willing to work any shift.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States now AND in the future.

Physical demands and work environment:
  • This position is required to do extensive walking through factory environment production areas.
    Required to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 35 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb, kneel, pull, push, carry, twist, bend, forward reach and reach above shoulder level on an occasion.
  • Required to frequently sit, stoop and stand.
  • Required to use fine and gross motor skills, firm hand gripping and repetition to handle physical parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
  • Must be able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal range; includes the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Environmental exposures may include dust, fumes, odors, loud noises and chemicals.
