Job summary

Celanese is seeking an Operations Manager onsite at the Mylar Specialty Films facility in Richmond, VA to lead daily operations and drive KPI achievement. You will manage a 6-person direct team and oversee ~60 operators across three units, with rotating shifts, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient production.

Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing, you will develop frontline leadership, implement continuous improvement, and coordinate with maintenance and engineering to minimize downtime

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical engineering discipline and 3+ years of leadership experience.
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, 10+ years manufacturing/industrial operations, including 3 years in leadership.
  • Ability to motivate others and drive employee development.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure resources, raw materials and supplies are available for Unit Operation.
  • Translate department strategy into operating plans and execute the annual operating plan.
  • Drive development and engagement of Operators and Supervisors; review Daily KPI and address gaps.

This is an onsite, in-person positionlocatedat: Mylar Specialty Films - 5401 Route 1,RichmondVA 23234(locatedinside the DuPontManufacturing Facilityin Richmond)

This roleis responsibleforimplementingoperationsstrategydeveloped by the Leadership Team.The personis primarily responsiblefordeveloping andmaintainingdailywork processesto achievethe daily KPI. The personinthis rolemust ensure thatthe operationis coordinatedin a mannerthat supports the daily KPIbymaking sure thatthe resourcesrequiredareavailablein a timely manner.

TheOperationsManager provides leadership ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations that meet customer requirements and unitobjectives. This role focuses on driving operational excellence, developing frontline leadership, andidentifyingand implementing continuous improvement opportunities.

The rolereportsto the Director ofManufacturing,theOperationsManager leads a team of6direct reports, including Supervisors, and Training Specialist, and supports a broader organization of approximately 60 operators across threeoperating areas.Most of theoperators and supervisors work rotating shift schedules.

TheOperationsManager typically works Monday–Friday days and provides on-call support as needed to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Responsibilities:

Routine Activities

  • Ensure resources, rawmaterialsand supplies are available for Unit Operation.

  • Translate the department strategyinto operating plansandexecute the annual operating planfrom theManufacturing Director

  • Drive development and engagementof the Operatorsand Supervisors

  • Review Daily KPI andgaps with the team. Assignedownerfor each targetto helpminimize the gaps

  • Responsible for planning emerging needsand non-routine operations activities

  • Communicates all thesupportneeded from Maintenance and Engineerstominimize downtime

  • Reinforce Safety, Quality, Reliability & Engagement (SQRE)plans by performing walk-throughs and providing feedbackto the core team

Ad-hoc Activities

  • Coordinate with TechnologyManagerall activities that aim to remove technical roadblocks

  • Foster best practicesimplementationacross all units

  • Administration of theprocess safety requirements like MOC, PHA, PSSR, etc.

Overarching Activities

  • Ensures effective Conduct of Operations system in placeto achievea flawless daily execution

  • Drivesconsistent and proactiveimprovement

  • Providetimelyand thoughtfulresponse to escalation issues

Decision Authorities

  • Decides what workis brought in and out of the 24/7 Team

  • Directs escalation resources to resolve issues outside the skills/scopes of the 24/7 Team

  • Effective Conduct of Operations Protocols in place for the Team

  • Responsiblefor ensuringthe 24/7 teamshave resources, supplies, rawmaterialsand technologyto make good products anddaily activities.

  • Shutdown or delaystart-upof equipment,if unable to safely/reliableoperateunder SOP, SOC, Qualityor Environmental planor special instructions

  • Escalateissues that cannot be solvedregardingkey activities of the SQREand need totake action

  • Employee performancereward,improvementor termination

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical engineering discipline, and 3+ years of leadership experience.

  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, candidates must have 10+ years of manufacturing or industrial operations experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role managing supervisors or other frontline leaders.
