Job summary

BD in Sumter, SC is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to provide mechanical support to production, lead improvements, and ensure equipment reliability.

You will design, install, and document changes, coordinate with vendors and R&D, and mentor technicians while maintaining safety standards. The role may require night/weekend on-call.  

Ideal candidates have an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, 3–5 years in manufacturing, and experience with AutoCAD and GD&T.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required OR Highschool Diploma or GED with 5+ years relevant experience in manufacturing industry.
• Will consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3 years required and 5+ years preferred of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Six Sigma, 8D Problem Solving, Machinist Certification, Preferred not required
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and components.
• Expertise with Cam driven and Servo Driven Equipment Fixing.
• Desired experience with machine reliability and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Provides theoretical and hands-on mechanical support to production departments, resolving issues and guiding technical staff.
• Develops and implements plans to reduce waste, defects, and downtime, leading teams of technicians.
• Documents modifications per policies, updates specs and drawings.
• Designs and implements machine improvements and capital equipment projects with maintenance expertise.
• Supports project managers on new production lines, including installation, testing, and guarding.
• Performs experiments to help design semi-automatic/automatic production machines.
• Prepares detailed mechanical design drawings and cost estimates for new projects.
• Ensures equipment meets government codes and process specifications prior to shipment.
• Coordinates with vendors, R&D, and plant departments on assignments.
• Manages multiple projects concurrently and mentors technicians.
• Knowledge of safety standards and operator best practices with equipment.
