Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is primarily responsible for monitoring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile and conducting advanced research in numerous areas related to national security. Additionally, it is a center for research in a wide range of scientific disciplines, including space exploration, geophysics, renewable energy, supercomputing, medicine, and nanotechnology. PSD-3, Advanced Recovery and Integrated Extraction System (ARIES), supports the Nation's objectives of nuclear non-proliferation, nuclear disarmament, fissile material disposition, and actinide fuels development by using the LANL Advanced Recovery and Integrated Extraction System (ARIES). ARIES is the process of dismantling the core of nuclear weapons (pits), converting the plutonium from pits into oxide, processing of the oxide to ensure it falls within customer specifications, and certifying this oxide for use in support of national defense and security missions.
As the PSD-3 Group Leader, the selected candidate will manage and provide leadership to approximately 85 people consisting of technicians, scientists, engineers, floor supervisors and first line managers. The group is planned to grow in both scope and personnel. The Group Leader will represent the organization on technical, operational and administrative issues to both internal and external customers. The position responsibilities will include defining business unit capabilities and requirements that translate into work scope, cost, and scheduling.
The selected applicant will provide technical leadership and management of PSD-3 tactical and strategic operations in support of meeting ALDWP objectives, and will work closely with the Program Office.
