Description

Located in Rochester, NY and founded in 1916, G&H | GS Optics specializes in the custom design and manufacture of precision polymer optics for use in the biomedical, healthcare diagnostics, machine vision and analytical instrument markets, as well as military and civilian night-vision and visible-range sighting applications. In addition to the highly automated injection molding process, it has well established in-house capabilities to provide custom designed diamond turned and injection molded prototypes, thin film anti reflective and reflective coatings and integrated optical assembly solutions.

G&H | GS Optics is seeking a driven and experienced Manufacturing Lead to manage production operations within our molding department. This key role ensures on-time delivery (OTD) to customers, secondary operations, and outside suppliers. The Manufacturing Lead will coordinate work center assignments, operator allocation, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to optimize production efficiency and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage production schedules and work center assignments to meet OTD goals.
  • Coordinate with process technicians, engineers, and QA to resolve production issues.
  • Ensure timely handoff of product to downstream departments including CNC, Coating, Diamond Turning, and Shipping.
  • Monitor and report scrap data; actively lead scrap reduction efforts.
  • Set up off-shift production plans to ensure optimal performance.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across production operations.

Core Duties

  • Adhere to G&H|GS Optics manufacturing standards and process methodology for polymer optics.
  • Interpret and follow quality, safety, and process instructions for molding equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of production data in the ERP system.
  • Train and mentor new and existing operators in safety, quality, and process procedures.
  • Assist in the development of capacity planning and operator scheduling.
  • Conduct process reviews with operators to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineering and QA to resolve quality issues and provide remediation training.
  • Support implementation of lean manufacturing and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Uphold legal, ethical, and company standards in all job duties.
  • Familiar with and follows ISO 9001, ISO 14001; 2015 Standards & SPC practices, and work safety practices.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2–5+ years in a manufacturing environment; injection molding and/or optics experience highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in visual inspection techniques for fine cosmetic defects (e.g., flowlines, contamination).
  • Strong understanding of molded optic quality standards.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000 and SPC practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to read production schedules and interpret technical drawings.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office Suite and Outlook.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to best practices.
