Job summary

Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) in Portland, OR is seeking an Industrial Engineer to develop engineered labor standards for complex manufacturing processes and to optimize operations using LEAN thinking.

You will support new products and industrialization projects, perform time and motion studies, and help plan layouts for capacity and continuous improvement initiatives. Hybrid work arrangement with a strong focus on cross-functional collaboration enabled by DTNA’s team-oriented culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial/Manufacturing/Process/Mechanical Engineering or 4+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
• Detail oriented, reliable, and self-motivated.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing, lean, and process optimization methods.
• Ability to interpret engineering diagrams and develop labor estimates/standards from designs.
• Excellent cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Work with project teams to implement new projects and provide labor estimates from design concepts to production startup.
• Review new designs and generate engineered labor standards; suggest design changes to optimize install labor and ergonomics.
• Apply LEAN methods to plan new processes and work cells and optimize operations to reduce waste.
• Maintain and update existing labor standards and perform time and motion studies on complex tasks.
• Support development of standards, guidelines, and procedures for documenting labor standards.
• Provide engineering and economic analysis for facilities, workflows, methods, and processes; assist in capacity planning and make-buy studies.
• Develop and maintain manufacturing/warehouse layouts for new product introductions and capacity expansion.

Inside the Role

Industrial Engineering has a wide range of responsibility and opportunity within Manufacturing Engineering. This position provides support for both, new products and industrialization projects by developing engineered labor standards for complex manufacturing processes and the optimization of processes aimed at increasing value add using LEAN thinking.

Position offers a starting salary range of $71,000 - $91,000 USD. Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What You Drive at DTNA

• Work with project teams responsible for implementing new projects, providing labor estimates during the entire phase of the project from design concepts until production startup.
• Review new design concepts and generate engineered labor standards. Recommend design changes to optimize install labor and ergonomics.
• Utilize LEAN methods to plan new processes and work cells, and optimize existing operations aimed at eliminating waste and increasing efficiencies.
• Maintain and update existing labor standards.
• Perform time and motion studies on complex tasks using standard Industrial Engineering methods, including direct observation or engineered standards.
• Assist in the development of strategies, standards, guidelines and procedures for documenting and establishing labor standards.
• Provide engineering and economic analysis support in analyzing and designing facilities, workflows, methods, and processes. Participate in capacity planning, new equipment cost justification and make-buy studies.
• Develop and maintain manufacturing and warehouse layouts to support new product introductions, capacity expansion, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Apply industrial engineering techniques and concepts to product and process design throughout all phases of product life cycle

Knowledge You Should Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Process or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical education from an accredited university/college OR 4+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
• Detail oriented, reliable, and self-motivated
• Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing, lean, process optimization methods and quality.
• Able to interpret engineering diagrams and develop labor estimates and/or standards based on design specifications and existing manufacturing processes.
• Strong cross functional communication and collaboration skills
• Must be well organized, able to handle multiple, detailed tasks, and work professionally with various levels of DTNA management required
• English: advanced (speaking, reading, writing) required
• Position located in Portland, Oregon

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

• Experience leading projects
• Other languages: Spanish (Intermediate) preferred; additional language(s) appreciated
• Experience with MS Excel, OneNote, MS Project and MS Visio a plus
• Knowledge of simulation applications and data visualization and analytical applications a plus

Travel percentage required

15 - 25% US and Mexico
