Job summary

Sacoma Specialty Products is seeking a hands-on, on-site Manufacturing Process Engineer to join the Engineering team. This role focuses on solving manufacturing challenges, improving production processes, and working directly with equipment on the shop floor.

You will drive continuous improvement across the operation, design and test methods, and partner with teams to deliver dependable production-ready solutions. Experience in lean manufacturing and heavy industry is valued.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering Technology degree or equivalent work experience considered.
  • Strong ability to read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience in lean manufacturing environments and continuous improvement.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and preventative maintenance on heavy industrial equipment.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming, industrial sensors, and servo motors is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs applying knowledge of design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
  • Develop manufacturing processes by researching, designing, modifying, and testing methods and equipment.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Assist production with programming and adjusting robotic MIG welders and resistance welders.
  • Ensure product and process quality by designing testing methods and establishing standards.
  • Calculate production, labor, and material costs while reviewing production schedules and estimating future requirements.
  • Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing manufacturing data and trends.
  • Investigate current manufacturing technologies and implement mechanical improvements to create more repeatable, stable, and reliable processes.
  • Implement mechanical improvements to production equipment while maintaining specifications.
  • Perform hands-on improvements to manufacturing equipment about 70% of the time.
  • Research and cost improvement opportunities about 25% of the time.
  • Perform clerical responsibilities, including purchase orders and project timelines, about 5% of the time.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Research and cost improvement opportunities approximately 25% of the time.
  • Perform clerical responsibilities, including purchase orders and project timelines, approximately 5% of the time.
Requirements
Qualifications
  • Mechanical Engineering Technology degree or similar degree preferred. Equivalent work experience demonstrating mechanical knowledge, theory, and application will be considered.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (Creo preferred).
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of technical experience in a lean manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on heavy industrial manufacturing equipment.
  • Industrial experience working with electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming, industrial sensors, and servo motors is a plus.
  • Experience conducting time studies and reporting collected data.
