Job summary

PennEngineering is seeking motivated students for our internship program in Danboro, PA. You’ll gain hands-on experience in lean manufacturing, CAD design, and continuous improvement projects, mentored by seasoned engineers, with exposure to manufacturing and R&D facilities.

You will work directly with leaders to discuss strategy and future of PennEngineering, build a lasting professional network, and develop skills in time studies, data analysis, and teamwork during this hands-on internship.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Proactive self-starter with eagerness to learn.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with 2D/3D CAD is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Learn fundamentals of LEAN manufacturing.
  • Design fixturing, tools, and ergonomics supports in CAD.
  • Create process flow diagrams and presentations using MS Office.
  • Perform time studies and apply data to justify changes.
  • Collaborate with operations and leadership to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Assist Continuous Improvement initiatives such as audits and standardized work.

What You Will Do
  • Experience and learn the fundamentals of LEAN manufacturing
  • Enhance working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD via design of fixturing, tools, ergonomics assists, etc.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office suite of software to create process flow diagrams and presentations
  • Perform time studies and apply the data to justify systematic change
  • Enhance interpersonal communication skills by working directly with operations and leadership staff
  • Use quantitative and qualitative data to provide specific recommendations to plant leadership on how to reduce waste and improve efficiency of existing manufacturing processes.
  • Assist Continuous Improvement team with plantwide LEAN and 5-S initiatives such as audits and standardized work creation.

Requirements
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • Current student working towards a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or something similar
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD. Ideally AutoCAD or Creo.
  • Proactive self-starter with an eagerness to learn
  • Strong interpersonal communication skillset
  • Strong public speaking skillset
Physical Requirements Neeeded
  • Must be able to navigate entire facility and be on their feet for at least 1-hour intervals
  • Visual acuity for detailed work
