Role Overview

Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network, aiming to deliver fast, reliable internet worldwide. The system is designed to serve a broad range of customers, from individual households to organizations in areas lacking reliable connectivity.

Job Description

We are seeking a Manufacturing Test Engineer to join our Optical Head Assembly (OHA) production development team. As a Manufacturing Engineer for a Line Replaceable Unit at Project Kuiper, you will be responsible for developing, introducing, improving, and maintaining manufacturing processes for a key spacecraft module, focusing on assembly, integration, and testing of electro-mechanical products. You will work closely with manufacturing engineers, design teams, and other stakeholders to solve technical challenges and scale production capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and improve production processes for assembly, integration, and testing.
  2. Act as the primary technical interface for the Coarse Pointing Assembly sub-module, participating in design reviews and development activities.
  3. Support operations by resolving technical issues during production escalations.
  4. Lead capacity increase initiatives, including defining and implementing new capital equipment for production scaling.
Additional Details

Export Control Requirement: Candidates must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents due to export control laws.

A typical day includes:

  • Working on the shop floor to implement processes and troubleshoot issues.
  • Performing data analysis and developing quality and capacity improvement strategies.
  • Collaborating with teams on design and process changes.
Qualifications
Basic:
  • 4+ years experience in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Experience with Space Flight Hardware Environmental Testing (SMC-16 or similar)
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys FEA tools
  • Experience designing complex mechanical products at volume
