Manufacturing Engineer, Machine Shop – Starship Inspection

Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for the Starship machine shop to own inspection reliability and manufacturability improvements. You will work closely with design, production, and quality teams to optimize inspection processes and characterise precision parts for flight hardware.

The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering or physics and 1+ years of related experience; advanced metrology skills, GD&T, and CNC/CMM capabilities are a strong plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or physics.
• 1+ years of machine shop, manufacturing, quality, and/or inspection experience (student project team or internship experience qualifies)

Responsibilities

• Determine inspection method (manual inspection, CMMs, Keyence, etc.) for max utilization.
• Increase inspection throughput by evaluating automation opportunities and standardizing rework guides.
• Maintain tight feedback loops with design and manufacturing to reduce cycle times.
• Update engineering drawings for better manufacturability and inspectability.
• Drive design for manufacturing initiatives related to inspection processes.
• Review out-of-tolerance conditions and sign off on dispositions.
• Collaborate with other SpaceX machine shops and quality facilities to align processes.
• Contain non-conforming products and implement corrective actions after root cause investigations.
