Job summary

Aste c is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer in Blair, Nebraska to develop and optimize manufacturing processes for heavy equipment. You will collaborate with engineering, purchasing, operations, and other teams to drive efficiency, safety and quality on the production floor.

Your role involves evaluating improvements, conducting time studies, applying lean tools, and planning equipment needs with ROI focus to support Astec’s Mobile Equipment line development goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial, manufacturing, mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years related work experience in a manufacturing environment with heavy machinery manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of machine shop operations/processes.
  • Knowledge of LEAN methods used in manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of all metal-cutting processes (punch, plasma, flame cutting).
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and understand symbols, legends, shading and lines.
  • Familiarity with nesting software for material optimization (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Develops, evaluates, and recommends improvements in manufacturing methods through new processes and modifications to minimize cost and maximize production capability.
  • Implements process improvements through time studies, process mapping, value-stream mapping, spaghetti mapping, and workload balancing with cross-functional teams.
  • Uses standard lean tool sets to improve safety and processes by reducing cycle time, rework, scrap, inventory, overtime, space, and late deliveries.
  • Leads continuous improvements using lean tools and coordinates lean training and development activities.
  • Collaborates with manufacturing to analyze workforce utilization, space, routing, and equipment needs; designs layouts for efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Estimates production times, capacity requirements, and costs for management decisions and meeting dates/specifications.
  • Develops and evaluates new development programs; recommends changes to improve quality, productivity, manufacturability and safety.
  • Applies statistical methods to forecast manufacturing requirements and potential.
  • Manages transition of new product introductions from engineering to manufacturing including capacity analysis and process validations.
  • Maintains manufacturing process work instructions and assembly tooling.
  • Specifies new equipment and fixtures to meet production and quality requirements.
  • Prepares and presents information using Microsoft Office tools.
  • Researches and analyzes technical information from various sources.
  • Follows company policies and safety rules.
