Job summary

Destaco is seeking a Engineering Co-op to support lean manufacturing and quality management initiatives. You will assist in inspections, documentation reviews, and developing standard work across engineering, manufacturing, customer service, and materials departments.

The role emphasizes collaboration, process documentation, and proactive problem-solving to improve quality, safety, and efficiency in production environments.

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership and team-building abilities to drive lean initiatives.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to implement effective solutions.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools (Word, Excel) for documentation and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of blueprint reading and interpretation.
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods, tooling, fixturing and materials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Create Standard Work Instructions for production and safety using Sequence software.
  • Create Inspection Plans for machining using High QA software.
  • Update Machining job set-up sheets.
  • Gage Inventory Management.
  • Develop models in SolidWorks and 3D printing.
  • Assist with containment and countermeasures for supplier/customer quality issues.
  • Conduct Gauge R&R and capability studies.
  • Assist in new equipment integration and process documentation.
  • Design tools and fixtures as needed.

Job description

Position Summary:

The Engineering Co-op supports Engineering in implementing lean manufacturing processes and supports efforts in maintaining the quality management system. Additional responsibilities include supporting DESTACO's quality initiatives by performing visual, and dimensional inspections coupled with documentation reviews to ensure compliance with quality and performance standards. This position has a key role in interacting effectively with the Engineering, Manufacturing, Customer Service, and Materials departments. S/he will assist in establishing work measurement standards and play an active role in ensuring quality, safety, and lean manufacturing systems and processes.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Creating Standard Work Instructions for production and safety initiatives using Sequence software
  • Creating Inspection Plans for machining using High QA software
  • Updating Machining job set-up sheets
  • Gage Inventory Management
  • Development of models in SolidWorks and 3D printing.
  • Assist in immediate containment and countermeasures to suppliers (internal/external) and customer quality complaints.
  • Conducting Gauge R&R and capability studies.
  • Assists in new equipment integration and new process documentation.
  • Tool and fixture design.

Education and Certification Qualifications:
  • Continued education in a 4 year degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering (Or other related field of study)
