Job summary

S&C Electric Company is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer III to lead machining-focused engineering projects at our Palatine, IL facility. You will drive design-to-implementation efforts, optimize tooling and automation, and mentor junior engineers while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering specifically machining (e.g., Machining Process Engineer, CNC Process Engineer).
• Proven ability to improve KPI’s related to machining quality and productivity.
• Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and work with machinists and CNC programmers (incl. speeds and feeds, offsets, etc).
• Ability to work with tool designers and CNC team to improve workholding and tooling selection.
• Great problem-solving skills and able to communicate across levels of the organization related to supply-chain, production, and manufacturing.
• Good interpersonal skills to establish relationships and foster collaboration.
• Great communication skills (written, verbal, listening, presentation).
• Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation within quality function.
• Good organizational planning and resource coordination.
• Analytical skills to drive learning and data-driven actions.
• Ability to work in fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and extended hours when necessary.
• Proficiency with MS Office and Power BI; data analysis skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead manufacturing engineering projects from design through implementation, including equipment installation and process redesign.
• Design and document manufacturing processes, standards, and tooling; drive safety, quality, design, and cost metrics by analyzing production data.
• Develop and implement tooling and automation; apply PLC knowledge to support automation and integration.
• Manage equipment upgrades and coordinate with suppliers; ensure performance, safety, and ergonomic standards.
• Drive cross-functional collaboration to align engineering with production, maintenance, product engineering, and quality.
• Coach and mentor junior engineers through informal learning and project collaboration.
• Lead practical problem-solving efforts to address safety, quality, and efficiency issues and implement corrective actions.
• Understand and comply with Company policies and rules.
