Job summary

Magellan Aerospace Middletown is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer II (Welding) to provide process and manufacturing engineering support for new and ongoing production programs, interfacing with customers and internal teams.

You will own welding processes, develop tooling and work instructions, maintain BOMs in ERP, oversee NADCAP compliance, train welders and inspectors, and partner with Quality to ensure part quality and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering with 2 years welding experience.
• Strong communication, ability to read and interpret drawings.
• Ability to write reports and present to groups.
• Ability to calculate figures and geometry.
• NADCAP experience preferred.
• Ability to investigate welding issues and perform failure analyses.

Responsibilities

• Plan and design manufacturing plans for both new and existing programs.
• Plan and design special tooling, fixtures, jigs, shop aids, and handling equipment.
• Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing work instructions detailing each operation from start to finish.
• Create and maintain bills of material using an ERP system.
• Own the welding area to provide analytical problem solving and process troubleshooting.
• Assist in estimating activities to support new business.
• Collaborate with Quality to ensure part quality objectives.
• Ensure NADCAP and customer requirements are met in the weld department; lead audits.
• Research and justify capital equipment for weld area and manage implementations.
• Provide training and certification for welders, operators, and inspectors.
• Review weld procedures and documentation.
• Manage weld procedure qualifications and welding procedure generation.
• Conduct failure and cause analyses on welding issues.

POSITION SUMMARY

Magellan Aerospace Middletown has exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer II (Welding). This successful incumbent will provide process and manufacturing engineering support for new and/or ongoing production programs, projects with customers, various internal organizations, and appropriate internal personnel.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and design manufacturing plans for both new and existing programs.
• Plan and design special tooling, fixtures, jigs, shop aids, and handling equipment to support manufacturing processes.
• Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing work instructions that detail each operation required to manufacture a component or assembly through the complete manufacturing process.
• Create and maintain bills of material using an ERP system.
• Assume overall ownership of manufacturing area(s) assigned in order to provide support with analytical problem solving and process troubleshooting, while interfacing with other functional groups, as required, to resolve manufacturing issues by implementing robust corrective actions.
• Provide assistance in estimating activities to support new business.
• Work alongside Quality Engineers to ensure that overall part quality objectives are achieved.
• Ensures the weld department meets all NADCAP and customer requirements. Leads all weld audits including NADCAP certification and customer audits.
• Research, evaluate, justify, and recommend capital equipment for the weld area. Prepare capital project requests and manage their implementation.
• Provides training and certification for all welders, weld operators, and weld inspectors. Works with HR to maintain records and ensures all training/certification documentation is kept up to date.
• Reviews weld procedures, processes, and documentation.
• Manages weld procedure qualifications and generating welding procedures to help the manufacturing and welding teams.
• Conducts failure analyses and cause analyses on welding issues.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent, with a minimum of 2 years related experience in welding.

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
