Job description

Manufacturing Engineer II - Automation, Smith & Nephew, Inc., Mansfield, MA

Engineering support for a highly automated assembly line in a clean room environment (Class 8). Troubleshoot existing automation equipment and support maintenance activities to ensure maximum uptime. Identify opportunities for automation within the manufacturing facility, create conceptual design and user needs documents, and collaborate with external/internal vendors to develop automation solutions. Validate manufacturing equipment using the Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification, and Performance Qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) processes. Use SolidWorks to design relevant fixturing, tooling, and equipment modifications. Develop and document work instructions to train operations personnel on various processes and equipment.

Employment Details: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.

Minimum Requirements:
  1. Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field, plus 2 years of relevant experience in the automation industry.
  2. Or a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field, plus 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the automation industry.

Of the required experience, must have at least 2 years in each of the following areas:

  1. SolidWorks
  2. Equipment and Process Validation (IQ/OQ/PQ)
  3. Automation Equipment Design
  4. Technical report writing

Additionally, must have 1 year of experience in statistical analysis using Minitab.

Willingness to travel domestically up to 20% to visit client sites is required.
