Job summary

RTX in Portsmouth, RI is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support operations across fabrication and integration areas. You will own manufacturing documentation, develop and review Manufacturing Data Packages, and guide production teams through engineering changes. Responsibilities include process improvement, tracking metrics, defect prevention, and data analysis using SAP and other systems.

Travel may be required; role is onsite in Portsmouth, RI. U.S.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and review Manufacturing Data Packages (MDPs) including instructions and routings
• Support manufacturing by troubleshooting processes and incorporating engineering changes into MDPs
• Disposition non-conforming material, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
• Lead continuous improvement to reduce cycle time, ergonomic risks, and costs
• Use manufacturing systems for data management and trend analysis (MS SAP)
• Travel as needed, typically first shift start around 7:00 am

The Manufacturing Engineer will provide Operations Engineering support to the Manufacturing Work Centers located in Portsmouth, RI. Primary responsibilities will be to support Operations production across a variety of fabrication and integration areas. This includes providing technical guidance to the Manufacturing team and owning the responsibility for the creation, maintenance, and review of manufacturing documentation. Additional responsibilities include process improvement, cycle time reduction, defect prevention and operator support. This person will be required to participate in process improvement initiatives, establishment of process base line metrics, Defect prevention, and process data analysis. This position is onsite in Portsmouth, RI.

What You Will Do

• Develop, maintain, and review Manufacturing Data Packages (MDPs), including assembly instructions, workflows/routings, labor standards, and tool/fixture designs.
• Support manufacturing areas by troubleshooting processes, guiding production teams, and incorporating engineering changes into MDPs.
• Disposition non-conforming material, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Perform Continuous Improvement initiatives to enhance cycle time, reduce ergonomic risks, automate processes, and cut costs using CORE principles and data-driven decision-making.
• Utilize manufacturing systems/software (e.g., Microsoft and SAP applications) for production data management and trend analysis, with occasional travel as needed.
• Infrequent travel may be requested on an as-needed basis 1st Shift (typical start time by 7:00 am)

Qualifications We Prefer

• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, DFMA principles, MRL/TRL assessments, and safety/ergonomic evaluations
• Proficient in technical drawing interpretation, GD&T, configuration management, Military/Industry standards (e.g., J-STD-001), and CAD tools like CREO/ProE or simulation software.
• Experience in Transducer and Sensor assembly (mechanical assembly/bonding/potting/molding), cable and harness fabrication, including crimping requirements, electromechanical integration of piece parts and subassemblies, including a knowledge of cable and harness routing techniques, development of Specialized Tooling (Jigs, Fixtures, Packaging), and/or Refurbishment/Repair or Warranty requirements and processing of Government Furnished Material (GFM) or Equipment (GFE) Experienced in programming, maintaining, and operating automated tooling/machinery, including CMM, CNC, robotics, and other fabrication tooling & processing equipment
• Holds an active DoD security clearance (Secret or higher)

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
