Job summary

Abbott in Plymouth, MN is seeking an Engineer in the Structural Heart division to lead production equipment projects, drive cost reductions, and support new product introductions. You will mentor engineers and technicians, conduct process FMEAs and validations, and work with cross-functional teams to improve quality, efficiency, and throughput.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, at least two years of manufacturing experience, strong problem-solving and communication skills,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical or any engineering field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of engineering experience, ideally in manufacturing.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability in team settings.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage/support projects including new production equipment, process improvements and cost reductions while supporting new product introductions.
  • Provide technical mentorship to engineers and technicians.
  • Conduct Process FMEAs and Process Validations including driving validation strategies.
  • Improve product quality, labor efficiency, and throughput using Lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Coordinate design, procurement, build and testing of tooling, machinery and test equipment.
  • Drive projects with cross-functional teams and ensure Design for Manufacturability.

The Opportunity

This position works out of our Plymouth, MN location in the Structural Heart division. Structural Heart Business Mission : Why We Exist! Our business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life by designing and providing device and management solutions for treating structural heart disease.

What You’ll Work On
  • Manage/support projects which include new production equipment, process improvements and cost reductions while supporting new product introductions. Provide guidance and work direction to other engineers and technicians. Additional responsibilities include :
  • Provide technical mentorship to engineers and technicians
  • Conduct Process FMEAs and Process Validations including driving validation strategies
  • Improve product quality, labor efficiency, and throughput through the use of Lean manufacturing concepts
  • Coordinate the design, procurement, build and debug of tooling, and implementation of machinery and test equipment
  • Coordinate, set strategy, and drive projects with cross-functional teams
  • Work with Product Development to ensure Design for Manufacturability
  • Individual should : Be innovative, resourceful, and work with minimal direction; have excellent organization, problem solving, communication, and team leadership skills; work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree Mechanical, Chemical or any engineering or technical degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum 2 years of engineering experience, ideally in manufacturing

Preferred Qualifications
  • International manufacturing experience preferred
  • Six Sigma certification preferred
  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred
  • Medical device experience preferred

The base pay for this position is $61,300.00 – $122,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
