Job summary

Textron Systems, a leader in aerospace and defense, seeks a Manufacturing Engineer II to drive electronics assembly and testing across the product life cycle. You will develop repeatable processes, establish layouts, and implement cost-saving improvements with Design Engineering and shop floor teams.

The role requires 3+ years in manufacturing, soldering to IPC-610 Class III, harnessing to IPC-620 Class III, and strong collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Preferred Electrical, RF, Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3+ years in a manufacturing environment, with electronics experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Design Engineering and Technicians to bridge design and manufacturing.
  • Perform make/buy analyses from drawings and schematics.
  • Identify capital equipment and facility needs for new programs.
  • Develop processes, layouts, tool designs, and cost estimates for new products.
  • Create detailed manufacturing process documents and production plans.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external suppliers.

Who We Are

Textron Systems is seeking an experiencedManufacturing Process Engineer to focus on electronics/electrical manufacturing assembly and testing of products across the product life cycle spectrum. As part of our dedicated ISC team, Manufacturing Process Engineer’s principalresponsibilities are to develop repeatable and reproducible assembly, inspection, and test instructions, identifyopportunities for improvement and implement changes. Responsibilities will also include other upstream activities such as capital equipment, facility requirements, existing and emerging manufacturing technologies, tool design, cost estimating, and configuration control. This individual will work closely with Design Engineering, Manufacturing and Assembly Technicians to complete builds, analyze results and continuous improvement.

About This Role
Job Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering, Assembly Technicians and other Manufacturing Engineers to provide a clear line of communication between design and manufacturing.
  • Perform make/buy analyses for new designs by reviewing drawings, sketches, and schematics.
  • Determine necessary capital equipment, facility requirements, manufacturing technologies, and other manufacturing requirements for emerging programs.
  • Develop manufacturing processes, procedures, tool designs, production layouts, cost estimates, and configuration control methods for efficient manufacturing of new products.
  • Identify emerging manufacturing technologies and perform cost/benefit analysis for implementation.
  • Develop factory floorplans and equipment arrangements with facilities to ensure efficient and productive flow.
  • Develop detailed manufacturing process documents by providing technical knowhow and drive best practices.
  • Develop detailed production plans to support new products.
  • Provide technical support to both internal and external suppliers via in person and/or phone support.
  • Maintain a positive attitude while interacting with a diverse and multi-functional workforce.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated implementation of lean practices.
  • 3 + years of experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably electrical/electronic/RF experience).
  • Experience and relevant background in application of materials, manufacturing methods and equipment; especially in regards to assembling, troubleshooting, repairing electronic systems, circuits, test equipment and cables/harnesses (Certified soldering to IPC-610 Class III, Harnessing to IPC-620 Class III, Troubleshooting of digital, analog, and RF electronics).
  • Knowledge of electronics, electrical, RF, mechanical design and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Knowledge of DFX principles, including Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, and Cost.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and the appropriate tolerances in a manufacturing mechanical environment a plus.
  • Knowledge of existing manufacturing technologies, and the ability to research emerging manufacturing technologies.
  • Ability to analyze and understand technical drawings, preliminary bills of material, engineering sketches, CAD models, prototypes, specifications, and ad hoc requirements.
  • Ability to detect and analyze potential design issues, and to apply logical or scientific solutions to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to visualize and comprehend critical elements of a manufacturing environment and to understand the interactions of various factors that affect engineering designs.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, diverse team environment. Includes the ability to justify analytical results then effectively communicate recommendations to positively influence designs and processes.
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Basic computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Manufacturing specific computer skills: ERP and MRP (e.g. Oracle); PLM (e.g. Matrix); MES (e.g. Solumina).
  • Experience with CAD software (UG NX 10+).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree required. Preferred degrees are Electrical, RF, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
