Job summary

Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI, is seeking a Battery Manufacturing Engineer to industrialize Cell-to-Pack BEV battery pack factories. You will specify, deliver, and commission advanced processes with a diverse team, driving quality, efficiency, and cost improvements.

This role involves leading process development, equipment integration, and collaboration with suppliers and OEMs, with a focus on achieving high OEE and rapid transfer to operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in engineering required; master's preferred.
  • 1–3 years in Process Engineering.
  • Experience with Cell-to-Pack module assembly processes.
  • Experience leading large-scale manufacturing projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing processes and layouts for Battery Cell-to-Pack modules.
  • Lead cross-functional engineering with Product, Purchasing and Suppliers.
  • Drive DFx and design for manufacturability for new battery packs.
  • Collaborate with OEMs on equipment, process and tooling.
  • Define cycle times, OEE targets and labor strategies.
  • Manage schedules, budgets, and change management.

In this battery manufacturing engineering role, you will work actively on Industrialization of Cell-to-Pack BEV Battery Pack factories with a diverse, multi-functional team to specify, deliver and commission state-of-the‑art processes and equipment that meet the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction in the New Energy Vehicles of tomorrow.

In addition to the industrialization of the Battery cell / pack industrialization you will have an exciting opportunity to innovate and develop next gen technology processes / methods to drive continuous improvement in quality, efficiency and cost.

Responsibilities

What you'll do...

  • Develop manufacturing process: lead, engineer line layouts, implement the Battery Manufacturing processes, and launch manufacturing facilities. Processes specific to Cell-to-Pack Module Assembly
  • Lead simultaneous engineering with Product, Purchasing and Suppliers to deliver manufacturing feasibility:
  • Drive design for manufacturability for new Cell-to-Pack Battery Packs products.
  • Work closely with OEM’s in the design of manufacturing equipment, process and tooling
  • Collaborate with automation and other technology partners to develop competitive solutions for productivity
  • Understand and own ROI
  • Lead development of quality methods including process failure mode and analysis (PFMEA), associated gauging requirements and inspection methods.
  • Deliver a Control plan per the quality strategy
  • Develop assembly system solutions including workstation requirements (work content, automated versus manual, buffering strategy, redundancy requirements, etc.)
  • Define Cycle time / OEE and other performance targets with industrial engineering to develop optimal operating and labor strategies
  • Define equipment acceptance criteria including duration, target results, and quality inspection plan
  • Manage schedule and budget
  • Track and own change management to deliver Quality, Cost and Timing
  • Lead equipment installation and coordinate with building and facilities team
  • Lead on site equipment buyoff per acceptance procedures
  • Support plant operations to achieve system performance objectives OEE, Cycle time / JPH et all
  • Enable successful process and system transition to plant operations
  • Create detailed manufacturing instructions to document new processes
  • Provide relevant process documentation (drawings, PM plans, spare parts, training manuals etc.)
  • Create and document detailed manufacturing processes for new technologies and methods
  • Provide plant assistance to support launch requests and extraordinary needs w/existing cell suppliers
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in engineering is required or Masters Preferred.
  • Min of 1-3 years in Process Engineering is required.
  • Understanding/experience in Cell-to-Pack Module Assembly processes (Prismatic form factor preferred) and manufacturing business acumen, minimum 5+ years on major projects
  • Experience Implementing large scale projects as a manufacturing engineer or project manager on new specialized manufacturing lines
  • Experience with simulation tools, Digital methods: AutoCad, Siemens PLM, etc
  • Developing layouts in AutoCAD, mechanical design stack up understanding highly desirable
  • Experience managing issues/projects through JIRA and Smartsheet
  • Experience with 3DX and Siemens virtual assembly ecosystem
  • Experience with hands‑on applications and comfortable in dynamic environments
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Travel and mobility with short term relocation / ability to work remote is key

This position is a salary grade 6-8 and ranges from $72,480-162,120.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
