Description:

Microbest Engineers are responsible for engineering aspects both “at the desk” and on the shop floor. Engineers shall be capable of understanding, creating, and editing CNC code used to machine both turned and milled products. Previous understanding and working ability with CAM software is a requirement.

Hands-on ability working with both CNC miller and lathes is required, including tool setting, fixture setup, tool offset adjustment, program trial, inspection of the resultant product, and methods of adjustment to eliminate deviations. Experience with automation systems and Swiss-style CNC lathes is a plus.

Engineers shall be capable of creating and troubleshooting multi-step manufacturing processes, have a thorough understanding of GD&T, specifications (AMS, SAE, etc.), and Lean practices. They should have the ability to independently troubleshoot problematic processes to create and implement structured countermeasures.

Working effectively in a team setting with various individuals is essential.

Requirements:

  • Troubleshoot problematic manufacturing processes, including processes producing sub-standard or non-compliant products or requiring excessive maintenance.
  • Help create functional processes supporting efficient manufacturing steps.
  • Create and edit CNC programs using manual G-code and CAM software.
  • Support creation of inspection methods and gauges for new and modified components and processes.
  • Perform continuous improvement activities on existing processes using LEAN tools.
  • Collaborate with peers and co-workers to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Support the design of multi-step manufacturing processes meeting quality and cost constraints.
  • Proficiency in CAM software; Microbest uses SolidWorks and SURFCAM.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a CNC machining environment.
  • Self-starter with hands-on experience with CNC lathes and millers.
  • Ability to own projects and drive them to completion.
  • Thorough understanding of GD&T.
  • Ability to manually and via CAM software, edit G-code CNC programs.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Understanding of Lean manufacturing philosophy.
  • Team player with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Experience with variable CNC programming and familiarity with Okuma and Fanuc controls is helpful.

Working Conditions:

  • Partially air-conditioned manufacturing floor and climate-controlled office.
  • Significant time on the manufacturing floor working directly with machinery and personnel.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing, walking, bending during work hours.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Lift items up to 35 pounds.

Direct Reports:

  • None.

Compensation / Working Hours:

  • Salaried, 1st shift position.
  • Minimum 45 hours/week, additional hours may be required.
