Job summary

Veeco is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing team serving the semiconductor equipment market. The role focuses on all aspects of manufacturing for existing products and new introductions, ensuring design for manufacturing and quality meet best-in-class standards.

The engineer will build production machines, troubleshoot issues, drive quality and efficiency, and contribute to Kaizen and Six Sigma initiatives while maintaining thorough documentation and process control.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Direct commercial experience in capital equipment or similar technical field is a plus.
  • Experience with welding/machining processes is a plus.
  • Experience with robotic/pick-and-place OEM machinery is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of SAP and ERP/MRP systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Kaizen, ISO-9000, DFMEA, Six Sigma is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Build all aspects of production machines (mechanical and electrical assembly, wiring, plumbing).
  • Troubleshoot and repair production machines and ensure quality standards.
  • Drive and implement Veeco quality standards and Copy Exactly throughout the build life cycle.
  • Recommend improvements to production methods, equipment performance and product quality.
  • Lead Kaizen events and Six Sigma projects to increase efficiency.
  • Maintain documentation, configure products for manufacture, and perform First Article inspections.
  • Support DFM reviews and participate in Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.

Overview:

Veeco PSP is looking for a hands‑on Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing team which serves the equipment and service needs of the exciting semiconductor equipment market. The Manufacturing Engineer is assigned to a specific tool and works directly with operations groups. The person in this role will handle all aspects of manufacturing for both existing products as well as provide support on new product introduction from start to finish ensuring that the design for manufacturing and quality meets best‑in‑class requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Build all aspects of production machines (mechanical assembly, electrical assembly, wiring, plumbing) with the ability to read P&ID diagrams and electrical schematics
  • Troubleshoot and repair production machines
  • Drive and implement Veeco quality standards and “Copy Exactly” Process throughout the machine build life cycle
  • Recommend and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product
  • Recommend and implement changes in the manufacturing environment and equipment to increase operational efficiency. Participate and help lead Kaizen events and Six Sigma projects
  • Maintain the knowledge base which consists of, but is not limited to, processes, documentation, change orders, bill of materials, product tables, and system logs. Configure and organize products for manufacture
  • Create and evaluate the documentation used in production including work instructions and procedures
  • Help perform disposition of NCM (non‑conforming material)
  • Utilize inspection measurement equipment as needed to verify part dimensional conformance and perform First Article inspections
  • Perform DFM (design for manufacturing) reviews and participate in Design Failure Modes and Effect Analysis
Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related field required. Direct commercial experience working in capital equipment or similar technical field is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Exposure to manufacturing methods and familiarity with welding/machining processes is a plus
  • Experience with robotic/pick‑and‑place OEM machinery is highly desirable
  • Mechanical design experience with SolidWorks or a similar 3D CAD modeling system is preferred
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems a plus, SAP preferred
  • Exposure to Lean, Kaizen, ISO-9000, DFMEA, Six Sigma is a plus
  • Able to effectively communicate, written and orally, with employees and technical professionals/consultants
  • Adept in the use of computers, software applications, and other technology tools used for information gathering, designing, product testing, computation, communication, and product documentation
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and demonstrated hands‑on ability
