Job summary

VANTA Partners Inc is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to lead and support the engineering organization. The role focuses on productivity/yield improvements, NPD/EPD, process control oversight, scrap/rework reduction, and acting as a hands-on technical resource on the shop floor.

You will collaborate with Operations, Quality, Sales, and Engineering, driving tooling and process improvements and documenting methodologies for work instructions and general processes.

Qualifications

  • Engineer degree or equivalent required with focus on manufacturing or mechanical disciplines.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specs, and quality requirements.
  • Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support and collaborate with manufacturing personnel and processes.
  • Oversee slurry testing data review and drive actions.
  • Support Process Control Program auditing and data collection.
  • Track and progress master heat testing to completion.
  • Improve productivity through tooling, processes and methods.
  • Drive NPD and EPD trials under leadership direction.
  • Create and modify 3D part models for shrink factors and gates.
  • Maintain digital and paper records and SOPs.
  • Learn and train others on manufacturing operations and work instructions.

Job description

The Manufacturing Engineer position is a lead and support position for the engineering organization.

Primary responsibilities include productivity and yield improvement initiatives, NPD and EPD, process control program oversight, scrap reduction and oversight, rework reduction and oversight, and being a motivated and engaged technical support to the manufacturing operation.

Responsibilities
  • Support and work closely with manufacturing personnel and processes.
  • Oversee and support slurry testing and monitoring, including review of data and driving actions from it.
  • Oversee and support PCS Review Meeting.
  • Support the Process Control Program by auditing it on the shop floor, collecting data from it, and reporting on it.
  • Support the Master Heat Qualification process by tracking and progressing master heat testing to completion.
  • Work closely with Operations, Quality, Sales, and Engineering.
  • Increase operational productivity through tooling, processes, and methods improvements.
  • Drive NPD (New Product Development) with direction from Engineering leadership from purchase order through approved FAIR, with efficient and thoughtful trials. This includes completing all Process Control Sheet information including detailed work instructions as required.
  • Drive EPD (Existing Product Development) trials with direction from Engineering leadership for productivity or yield improvements.
  • Drive new tooling builds and tooling reworks with accurate and clear tooling letters to outside tooling vendors.
  • Maintain and update necessary tracking logs to reflect trial status and timeline.
  • Report on assigned tasks to manager(s) and leadership as required.
  • Maintenance and accuracy of electronic part number folders which include NPD forms, blueprints, specifications, trial information, pictures, etc.
  • Maintain and update necessary digital and paper records using Office suite and ERP system.
  • Learn, perform, and train others on manufacturing operations such as straightening, grinding, heat treating, punch press die changeover, wax tool die changeover, etc.
  • Develop and document methodologies for part specific work instructions.
  • Develop and document methodologies for general process instructions.
  • Interpret, review, and analyze specifications, blueprints, drawings, part and tooling models.
  • Create and / or modify 3D part models for shrink factors, gates, etc.
  • Develop and implement safer methods and processes in manufacturing areas.
  • Learn and perform dimensional analysis using structured blue light scanner.
Qualifications
  • Motivated to find simple elegant solutions and fix problems.
  • Excellent people skills and positive attitude.
  • 2-4 year College Degree.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a similar position preferred.
  • Proven understanding of engineering drawings, technical processes, specifications, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy including all paperwork.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to seek and accept input and feedback.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced ever-changing manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Proactive and self-starter.
  • Team player and ability to work with other departments within the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn ERP systems and other PC based software packages.
  • Experience with 2D/3D CAD modeling software programs.
Reporting
  • Reports to the Engineering Manager.
  • Works closely with all organizational functions including Operations, Quality, and Sales.
Schedule & Work Environment

The position splits time between a manufacturing environment and an office environment. The ratio of time spent in each area will vary. Regular daily shop floor hours are expected to be successful in this position.
