Job description

Manufacturing Engineer

Technology | Manufacturing

The Manufacturing Engineer is a key player of the production cycle for both commercial and new product development tools. The Manufacturing Engineer performs the lead role in the implementation of manufacturing processes and techniques - and the implementation of LEAN and use of Six Sigma tools. He/she is the owner of their respective manufacturing processes and standards and enforces implementation by training shop floor personnel and implementing and monitoring metrics.. He/she is responsible to solve complex manufacturing problems and take an active role in troubleshooting quality and production yield related issues within manufacturing, developing detailed root cause analysis and corrective and preventive action plans, working closely with the support functions until full implementation.

The Manufacturing Engineer is also responsible for providing innovative and cost-effective processes and solutions required to manufacture products. This includes the design and development of new and improved manufacturing techniques, processes and procedures. His/her active participation in the shopfloor production activities is required, as he/she develops, maintains, and continuously improves manufacturing processes and techniques using LEAN. He/she develops standards and establishes implementation plans, including training plans for shop floor personnel, and production metrics. He/she collaborates with Engineering and Sustaining teams to ensure that processes are created and developed for new products and that return-on-experience is captured for existing processes.

Responsibilities
  • Implementation of manufacturing processes
  • Responsible for ensuring that manufacturing technology solutions achieve the required safety and quality levels, reliability and consistency.
  • Responsible for the implementation of key elements of Lean, such as: standardized work instructions, line balancing, layout and work sequence (routing) optimization, training development matrix, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen/5S workouts, pull processes, TPM (total preventive maintenance), cell design, and quick changeover/batch-size optimization.
  • Implement process improvements to achieve manufacturing excellence in areas such as process yield (e.g. First Pass Yield, Rolled Throughput Yield), cycle time reduction and productivity.
  • Provide shop floor feedback on product design and manufacturability issues to Engineering and DFMs (e.g. through the use of Engineering Change Requests).
  • Review and sign-off on Engineering Change Orders that impact Inventory - including product life cycle issues, obsolescence, etc.
  • Creates, implements, and monitors key performance indicators and metrics on manufacturing process capability and product quality.
  • Monitoring and reducing process costs.
  • Responsible to assist with investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for manufacturing quality issues.
  • Continuous improvement projects on manufacturing processes.
  • Establishes pilot testing and scale up plan for manufacturing technology implementation.
