Job description

Job Description
Manufacturing Engineer – CNC/CAM & Process Improvement

Location: Quakertown Area

Salary: $95,000–$115,000 per year

Schedule: Full-Time | On-Site | Monday–Friday

Typical Hours: Approximately 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with some flexibility

We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to support and modernize manufacturing operations within an established industrial manufacturing facility in Telford, PA.

This is a highly hands-on engineering role focused on CNC/CAM programming, manufacturing process development, shop-floor problem solving, process documentation, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys getting onto the production floor, working directly with machinists and operators, understanding how existing processes actually work, and turning that knowledge into standardized, documented, and improved manufacturing methods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, improve, and standardize manufacturing processes across CNC machining and production operations.
  • Personally create, verify, revise, and maintain CAM programs for CNC equipment.
  • Work from 3D models to develop CNC machining programs and support program upload, setup, prove-out, validation, and production.
  • Support the implementation of a new horizontal CNC machining center, including development of CAM programs and manufacturing processes from the ground up.
  • Work directly with CNC machinists and production personnel to troubleshoot machining, tooling, fixturing, and process issues.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing work instructions, process sheets, setup documentation, SOPs, visual standards, and process maps.
  • Work with experienced operators and technicians to capture manufacturing knowledge that may not currently be formally documented.
  • Analyze existing manufacturing methods to understand why processes are performed a certain way and identify opportunities for modernization.
  • Improve safety, quality, consistency, productivity, cycle time, and overall process reliability.
  • Lead root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.
  • Support tooling, fixtures, equipment installations, new product introductions, and production readiness activities.
  • Assist with corrective and preventive actions related to manufacturing and quality issues.
  • Support manufacturing of fiberglass-reinforced and molded components, including Resin Transfer Molding operations.
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, machinists, technicians, and operations leadership.
Required Qualifications
  • Approximately 5+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience within a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with CNC machining and CAM programming.
  • Ability to personally develop CAM programs rather than relying exclusively on dedicated CNC programmers.
  • Experience working from 3D CAD models through CAM programming, CNC setup/prove-out, and production.
  • Experience developing manufacturing processes, work instructions, and production documentation.
  • Strong understanding of machining fundamentals, cutting tools, fixtures, setups, and manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software.
  • Strong manufacturing troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Comfortable working directly on the production floor with machinists, operators, and technicians.
  • Ability to work successfully in an established manufacturing environment where some processes and manufacturing knowledge still need to be documented and standardized.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Candidates without a bachelor's degree may be considered with significant machining experience followed by several years of demonstrated Manufacturing Engineering responsibility.
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAM, Fusion, or comparable CAD/CAM software.
  • Experience supporting Haas or similar CNC machining equipment.
  • Experience with 3-axis, 4-axis, or multi-axis CNC machining.
  • Experience implementing, commissioning, or bringing new CNC equipment into production.
  • Experience converting operator or technician tribal knowledge into formal manufacturing procedures and work instructions.
  • Experience improving legacy or poorly documented manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with pumps, rotating equipment, industrial components, plastics, injection molding, fiberglass, composites, or other molded products.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma training.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP or manufacturing data-management systems.
What Makes Someone Successful in This Role

This position is particularly well suited for an engineer who enjoys figuring things out.

You may inherit manufacturing processes that have been successfully used for many years but are not fully captured in modern documentation. You will need to work with experienced employees, understand how and why the process works, document the current state, establish standards, and identify opportunities to improve it.

The right person will be comfortable moving between the engineering office and the shop floor and will enjoy taking ownership of manufacturing challenges from 3D model ? CAM program ? CNC machine ? prove-out ? production.
