Job Description:

The Manufacturing Engineer will act as a change agent focused on driving improvements in efficiencies, quality, and cost through process improvements, technological advancements, and capital expenditures. This individual will champion and execute continuous improvement efforts in a manner that achieves buy-in from team members and facilitates effective and lasting change, using engineering and continuous improvement tools such as Tiered Visual Management Boards (SQDC Boards), A3 thinking, and root-cause corrective action.

POSITION LOCATION:

This role will be based out of Phillips, Wisconsin.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve assembly methods, using knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, and quality control standards.
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, using knowledge of tooling and production equipment capabilities, tool fixture design, CNC program analysis, engineered parts manufacturability analysis, and quality control standards.
  • Work as a liaison between Design Engineering and Operations. (Engineering, Machine Shop, Assembly, Supply Chain, etc.)
  • Implement lean processes in accordance with the organization's overall vision (Standard Work, SMED, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Problem Solving, Kaizen, Pull Principles, Cellular Layout, FIFO, etc.).
  • Hands-on role working closely with manufacturing team members, lean leaders, and operation leaders to train and mentor individuals in lean manufacturing and quality system concepts, helping them to understand, embrace, and use those skills.
  • Lead manufacturing process improvements: this will include, but is not limited to, mixed model flow lines, swim lanes, line-balancing, error-proofing, work cells, etc.
  • Work with planning and design teams concerning product design, tooling, Design for Manufacturing and Assembly.
  • Analyzes and plans space requirement and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency including material handling equipment.
  • Estimate production times and related costs to provide information for costing of new products and special projects to assist in management decisions.
  • Utilize data for financial justification of any needed CapEx and implement the project.
  • Work with operations, engineering, sales, and other teams regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Responsible for company compliance to all federal and state environmental regulations.
  • Assists engineering in the development of new products.
  • Other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in engineering is preferred plus three to five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Lean and/or Six Sigma Certified

  • Solid understanding of lean principles (5S, Standard Work, line balancing, VSM, etc.).

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.)
  • Able to use AutoCAD or other CAD/CAM products for plant layouts, etc.
Work Environment:

The Manufacturing Engineer primarily works in an indoor environment. May be exposed to shop elements and at customer sites as required.

Position Type:

This is a regular, full-time position with frequent overtime. All candidates must be willing to work overtime.

Travel:

Some travel is expected for this position and may require extended stays. Anticipated travel is less than 10% between BWP-WI Facilities.
