Job summary

Multimatic is seeking an Industrial/Mechanical Engineer in Michigan to improve manufacturing processes, manage ECN timing with Scheduling, Tooling and QC, and develop layout and process improvements for JIT and TQC. The role supports standard costs and new product introductions while ensuring compliance with TS16949 and ISO 14001.

The ideal candidate has a college degree in engineering or 5+ years in related field, strong problem solving, and experience with MRP, CAD, and office software.

  • College degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or 5+ years in related field.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, production reporting systems and MRP.
  • Familiarity with government health, safety, environment and employment standards.
  • Strong technical report writing abilities.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheets, databases, CAD and word processing.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate ECN timing with Scheduling, Tooling and QC to minimize obsolete stock and ensure production at required engineering level.
  • Develop and coordinate plant/equipment layouts and process improvements for JIT and TQC.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining standard costs for products.
  • Coordinate introduction of new products and select subcontract suppliers.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements to improve competitiveness in a JIT environment.
  • Advise management on problems and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support Kaizen Team and GEAR activities.
  • Ensure compliance with TS16949 and ISO 14001 environmental guidelines.
  • Perform PFMEA updates and ensure ECN checklist completion.
  • Provide engineering support for safety, ergonomic evaluations, procurement, and fabrication needs.

Job description

1. Scope of Position:Increase company profitability and improve employee working conditions by studying, recommending and implementing changes to existing and new manufacturing processes.2. Key Responsibilities:Co-ordinate with Scheduling, Tooling and QC the proper timing of ECN's to minimize obsolete stock, and ensure production at required Engineering level. Develop and co-ordinate plant and equipment layout improvements, process improvements, to prepare Company for Just In Time manufacturing and TQC (Total Quality Control). Assist in developing and maintaining standard costs for all products. Co-ordinate and follow up on the smooth introduction of new product to the company assist in selecting appropriate suppliers for subcontracted operations. Research and pursue any potential operational opportunities for improvement in the Company's Operation to make the Company competitive in a JIT Manufacturing Environment. Advise Management of any potential problems and opportunities for improvement. Assist with any other projects as requested by the General Manager. Work in compliance with TS16949 Standards. Participates in the engineering change (ecn) process by designing / updating Process Failure Mode Effects Analyses (PFMEAs) as needed, reviewing all operators instructions, ensuring assembly equipment readiness, packaging requirements are met, and all other Process Engineering tasks are completed on the ECn Checklist before the change effective date. Will work in compliance with all legislative requirements of the OHSA and will be accountable for specific Health & Safety responsibilities, as outlined under “Safety & Environmental Responsibilities – Office & Production Employees. Participates in supporting Kaizen Team and GEAR activities. Maintains regular daily presence on the production floor and provides engineering support to assembly in areas of safety, ergonomic evaluations, methods improvement, procurement and fabrication of necessary equipment to improve/complete any required process additions and/or alterations, and responding to their concerns/suggestions. Consider all aspects of industrial plant engineering when designing and/or implementing process changes. Research, investigate and report manufacturing problems/concerns for improvement ofoverall plant productivity including process cost reductions, monitoring and devising/implementing corrective actions to minimize process downtimes and rejects.Will maintain due diligence in regard to environmental matters, minimize any potentially harmfulaccidents and work in compliance with ISO 14001. Will follow the environmental guidelines for aspectsas outlined in the job training requirements.3. Basic Requirements:a) College Diploma or University Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, ORFive years experience in a related field or discipline.b) Good knowledge of manufacturing, processes, production reporting system and MRP.c) Good knowledge of Government legislation in the areas of Health & Safety, Environment, Employment Standards, Fire Code, Canadian Standards Association, etc.d) Good Technical Report writing abilities.e) Excellent problem solving techniques and methods.f) Ability to successfully interact with all levels of employees in the organization.g) Computer skills in the area of spread sheets, databases, word processing, and C.A.D.5.
