Job summary

Redwire is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer in Goleta, CA to own the manufacturing scope for new programs and develop robust processes. You will work with design teams on GSE, ensure high‑reliability hardware, and support production planning, documentation, and readiness reviews.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering or related field with 2–4 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a manufacturing engineering or production support role.
  • Experience with RCCA methodology.
  • Background or strong understanding of GSE and tooling design.
  • Ability to design and document manufacturing processes, including sequencing and process controls.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Project management skills and the ability to work to schedule and budget commitments.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks.
  • Ability to travel 10–15% (mostly local, occasional overnight).
  • US Citizen or Green Card holder (Visa sponsorship not available).

Responsibilities

  • Set up production lines, including layout optimization, capacity planning, work instructions, tooling, and equipment.
  • Lead production planning and execution activities for assigned programs.
  • Ensure all manufacturing procedures comply with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Identify and implement best practices, process improvements, and KPI‑driven performance initiatives.
  • Train staff in new and existing manufacturing procedures.
  • May act as a lead for technicians and junior manufacturing engineers.
  • Anticipate production challenges, develop mitigation plans, and resolve issues with minimal direction.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including activity reports, project plans, test procedures, and work instructions.
  • Investigate and resolve non‑conformances; write rework instructions and dispositions.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance to resolve issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Provide manufacturability feedback and requirements for Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and specialized tooling.
  • Support design reviews, configuration control processes, and production readiness reviews.

At the heart of these offerings is Redwire’s patented Roll‑Out Solar Array (ROSA), an award‑winning system that uses composite booms and modular photovoltaic blankets to create compactly stowable, highly efficient solar arrays. These mission‑proven power systems have supported successful deployments across LEO, GEO, and deep space missions, including the ISS, NASA’s IXPE mission, and NASA’s DART mission.

We have a current opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer to support the production of advanced solar array technologies at our Goleta, CA facility. In this role, you will take ownership of manufacturing scope for assigned programs, leading the development and documentation of new manufacturing processes, supporting production planning and execution, collaborating with design teams on Ground Support Equipment (GSE), and ensuring high‑reliability hardware is built to meet mission requirements.

Basic Requirements

Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Experience working with solar arrays or aerospace structures

  • Exposure to PLM/MES systems

Pay Range $90,000 - $120,000/yr.

Redwire determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry‑specific survey data, for our locations throughout the US. We will evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index, in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and internal equity within the company for the same position.
