Job description

Manufacturing Engineer – Carma Laboratories, Inc.

We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to support our Operations team to ensure operational excellence and efficiency, drive process optimization, and equipment performance improvement. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a key role in improving production processes and equipment performance, manage successful execution of the capital planning process, and support the New Product Development (NPD) process within Operations.

Reports to: Director of Operations

Functional Responsibilities
Manufacturing Process Strategy Leadership
  • Assist in leading the development and implementation of manufacturing process strategies to improve efficiency, product quality, and cost-effectiveness
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process optimization across production lines and processes
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement in the support of internal and external stakeholders
Capital and Project Management
  • Manage assigned engineering projects from conception to implementation, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation, and address any roadblocks to ensure timely completion.
  • Manage the planning, installation, and commissioning of new process equipment to ensure installation is completed on time, within budget, and meets all operational requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and support for process design and scale-up during New Product Development (NPD) initiatives to ensure smooth integration of new products into the manufacturing process.
Production Equipment Performance Optimization
  • Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics related to equipment performance, process efficiency, and overall operations to optimize production efficiency
  • Leverage data analysis to develop actionable insights and drive continuous improvement
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost reduction strategies
Quality Assurance
  • Implement quality control measures and monitor product quality throughout the manufacturing process. Investigate and support resolution of quality issues
  • Leverage quality and analytical tools to assess, monitor and control the accuracy of manufacturing processes (i.e. Statistical Process Control (SPC), Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R), etc.)
  • Lead the creation and revision of Standard Work and SOP documents for manufacturing processes, equipment operation, and safety protocols
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements, including cGMP
Required Experience, Desired Skills & Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process design, equipment performance, and process optimization
  • Experience with new equipment installations and capital planning, preferred
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with New Product Development (NPD) processes and integration of new products into production
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to track, analyze, and act on production metrics and KPIs
  • Excellent leadership, communication and team management skills
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies (5S, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) Certification is highly desired
  • Experience working in a Manufacturing Execution System (i.e. Redzone), preferred
  • Experience with machine specifications, design and automation, highly desired
  • Experience working in a cGMP and OTC environment, preferred
  • Experience with CAD software and other engineering tools, preferred
  • Proficient in the use of statistical software and analytical tools (i.e. SPC, Gage R&R, etc)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Educational Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical, chemical, electrical or industrial engineering or related field
