Job description

The Manufacturing Engineer is a hands-on, production-focused engineer responsible for improving manufacturing process performance, equipment reliability, product yield, and production efficiency within a sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This role works directly on the manufacturing floor to troubleshoot equipment and process problems, identify root causes, reduce defects and downtime, eliminate bottlenecks, and implement sustainable improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct, hands-on engineering support to manufacturing and packaging operations through equipment inspections, field observations, measurements, functional checks, testing, and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Investigate recurring equipment failures, line stoppages, process defects, and performance issues using production data, maintenance history, operator input, and structured root-cause analysis.
  • Develop and implement equipment and process improvements that increase yield, throughput, equipment availability, and production efficiency while reducing scrap, rework, downtime, and variability.
  • Evaluate cycle times, changeovers, equipment settings, material flow, and line performance to identify bottlenecks and capacity constraints and implement practical improvements.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods to improve manufacturing processes, standardize effective operating practices, and verify that improvements deliver measurable, sustained results.
  • Develop engineering solutions involving mechanical components, tooling, fixtures, equipment configurations, and process parameters in coordination with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Quality, and Validation.
  • Create, interpret, field-verify, and revise AutoCAD drawings, including equipment and production layouts, mechanical details, P&IDs, and utility connections associated with manufacturing equipment. Maintain accurate redlines and final as-built documentation.
  • Execute equipment upgrades and manufacturing improvement projects from scope development and technical evaluation through vendor coordination, installation, testing, startup, commissioning, qualification support, and operational turnover.
  • Define and monitor performance measures, such as yield, downtime, cycle time, throughput, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), to prioritize opportunities and evaluate results.
What We’re Looking For
Experience
  • 3+ years of directly relevant manufacturing, process, production, mechanical, or related engineering experience.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical-device, food, chemical, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment required.

  • Demonstrated experience improving yield, throughput, downtime, scrap, cycle time, or other manufacturing performance measures.
  • Practical experience using AutoCAD to create and revise engineering drawings required.
  • Experience executing equipment modifications, production improvement initiatives, or manufacturing engineering projects.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline required.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude, including the ability to investigate equipment problems directly on the manufacturing floor and develop practical, sustainable solutions.
