Job summary

Modern Machining Solutions is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer in Chicago, IL to lead APQP on new product launches, design fixtures, and build routers and BOMs in a new ERP system. You will work on a fully integrated shop with CNC, sheet metal, welding, and assembly, and you’ll directly support the shop floor on process improvements.

The role requires 5 years in a machine shop environment, fixture design experience, and ERP-based router/BOM proficiency.

Qualifications

• 5 years in a machine shop, sheet metal fabrication, welding or hand assembly.
• Fixture design experience for machining and manual assembly.
• Production router and BOM experience in an ERP system.
• Lean Six Sigma — Green or Black Belt preferred; significant project work fine.
• Bilingual Spanish and Power BI is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design fixtures and production equipment in Autodesk Inventor; SolidWorks familiarity welcomed.
• Own production routers and BOMs through the ERP transition.
• Lead APQP on new product launches.
• Analyze process data, production KPIs and manufacturing cost data.
• Write production work instructions and test procedures.
• Submit engineering change notices and support the shop floor.

Manufacturing Engineer

Chicago, IL (Northwest Side) · Onsite · $100,000--$115,000

An 85-year-old, family-owned Chicago manufacturer is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer. The timing is the interesting part.

They are launching a new product roadmap with several new products a year, and they go live on a new ERP --- Infor CloudSuite Industrial --- in January. You would lead the APQP work on those launches and build the routers and BOM structure in a fresh system, rather than inheriting someone else's.

The shop is fully vertically integrated: CNC and manual machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding and hand assembly, all under one roof. When something goes wrong, you walk out to the floor and fix it. You are not filing a ticket with a supplier.

What you would do

• Design fixtures and production equipment in Autodesk Inventor --- strong SolidWorks users are welcome to apply
• Own production routers and BOM documents through the ERP transition
• Lead APQP on new product launches
• Analyze process data, production KPIs and manufacturing cost data
• Write production work instructions and test procedures
• Submit engineering change notices
• Provide technical support and training to the shop floor

What you need

• 5 years in a machine shop, sheet metal fabrication, welding or hand assembly environment
• Fixture design experience for machining and for manual assembly
• Production router and BOM experience in an ERP system
• Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, or the experience to match
• Lean and Six Sigma --- Green or Black Belt preferred; significant documented project work will be considered in its place
• Bilingual Spanish and Power BI are a plus

Details

• $100,000--$115,000 depending on experience
• Standard hours are 8:00 a.m.--4:30 p.m., Monday--Friday, fully onsite in Northwest Chicago. There is some flexibility on start time --- as early as 7:00 a.m.

• Relocation: No relocation expenses covered. Candidates should be within 1-1.5 hour drive of NW Chicago.
