Job summary

Orion Castings is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to drive quality and manufacturing excellence at our Chelmsford, MA facility. You will work with the NADCAP certified finishing operations, ensuring products meet stringent quality standards and regulatory requirements across programs for military, aerospace, and medical devices.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Quality or Manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience measuring with gauges and precision tools.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and sustain the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Audit manufacturing processes and products.
  • Complete first-piece inspection activities.
  • Support incoming inspection and communicate with suppliers regarding SCARs and other quality issues.
  • Collaborate with engineers on quality assurance of new products and development of procedures and quality requirements.
  • Develop and update PFMEAs and Control Plans as necessary.
  • Assist in resolving customer quality issues.
  • Investigate nonconformance reports and coordinate corrective/preventive actions.
  • Perform internal audits and mentor process owners toward continuous improvement.
  • Participate in cross-functional improvement teams for safety, quality, or cost.
  • Collect, analyze, and report internal and external quality data.
  • Perform other duties to support advancement of quality systems and plant operations.

Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer will be highly involved in the manufacturing aspects of the business, with an emphasis on Quality. They will work with our NADCAP Certified Finishing Facility, handling multiple projects and tasks throughout product development, product launch, and manufacturing. Additionally, this individual will ensure that product meets quality standards consistent with customer and other regulatory requirements. This role also supports plant activities in customer issues, supplier issues, and will initiate corrective actions with an emphasis on process improvement. The mission of the Manufacturing Engineer is to enhance the quality of materials and products through detection, analysis, and correction of conditions leading to nonconformance.

  • Salary: $82,500 - $109,500 / year

Job Functions

Skills & Competencies
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and NADCAP standards is a strong plus.
  • Working knowledge of print and blueprint specification interpretation.
  • Strong computer skills, including high proficiency with the MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong collaborative team player who can build trust across shop-floor teams and leadership.
Required Experience
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience within a Quality or Manufacturing background.
  • Hands-on experience measuring with various gauges and precision tools.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to perform sedentary work as well as move about the production floor.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and ascend/descend stairs.
  • Occasionally lifts or moves equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
