This Manufacturing Engineer role focuses on building repeatable, scalable assembly processes for complex physical hardware as products transition from prototype or low-volume builds into production. Success means taking personal ownership of production engineering work, improving throughput and quality, and delivering practical solutions that operators can run every day. You will design and qualify lines, fixtures, and tooling; apply Lean methods to reduce cycle time and waste; and control processes using data-driven validation and corrective action.
Responsibilities:
- Own hands‑on production engineering work from initial build readiness through stable, repeatable manufacturing performance.
- Drive the transition from prototype or low‑volume builds to scalable production for complex hardware, including at least one of custom fabrication, engine/generator assembly, or electric motor/machine assembly.
- Design and improve assembly lines, cells, and workstations by creating layouts, defining process sequences, balancing work content, and increasing production rates with takt‑aware planning.
- Develop and qualify fixtures, jigs, and tooling by creating 3D CAD models and detailed drawings, applying GD&T and tolerance stack‑ups, and building in locating strategies, error‑proofing, and repeatability.
- Build point‑of‑use material flow solutions using kitting and kanban approaches that support safe, efficient operator workflows and reduce motion and delays.
- Apply Lean methods including time studies, standard work, waste reduction, and ergonomics improvements to reduce cycle time and labor content while improving consistency.
- Develop, validate, and control assembly processes using DOE, gage R&R, capability analysis or IQ/OQ/PQ‑equivalent methods to confirm process robustness.
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions for build issues, defects, and throughput constraints, and verify fixes with measurable results.
- Create and maintain PFMEAs, control plans, work instructions, and production process documentation that support training, auditability, and sustained performance.
- Specify, implement, and qualify manufacturing equipment and semi‑automation, ensuring safe operation and practical maintainability.
- Maintain accurate MES/ERP routings and BOM structures to reflect the released process and enable reliable scheduling, material planning, and traceability.
- Partner with production, quality, design engineering, and supply chain to execute projects safely, unblock builds, and standardize best practices.
Required Skills:
- 3–5 years of manufacturing engineering experience with clear personal ownership of practical production engineering deliverables.
- Experience working in a startup or resource‑constrained environment, with hands‑on involvement in scaling complex physical hardware from prototype/low‑volume to repeatable production.
- Experience with at least one of custom fabrication, engine/generator assembly, or electric motor/machine assembly.
- Hands‑on capability designing, installing, improving, and qualifying assembly lines/cells/workstations, including layout development, process sequencing, line balancing, and production rate increases.
- Proficiency designing and qualifying fixtures/tooling using 3D CAD, engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance stack‑up methods, and error‑proofing/locating strategies; willingness to develop Siemens NX proficiency.
- Demonstrated use of Lean tools such as kitting, kanban, time study, standard work, waste reduction, and ergonomic improvements to reduce cycle time and labor.
- Experience developing and controlling assembly processes using DOE, gage R&R, capability or IQ/OQ/PQ‑equivalent approaches, plus PFMEAs, control plans, work instructions, and process documentation.
- Hands‑on experience specifying, implementing, and qualifying manufacturing equipment and semi‑automation solutions.
- Working knowledge maintaining MES/ERP routings and BOM structures to support manufacturing execution and material flow.
- Ability to drive safe execution and deliver results while coordinating day‑to‑day with production, quality, design engineering, and supply chain stakeholders.
Preferred Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong Siemens NX proficiency and/or experience with Teamcenter or a comparable PLM system.
- Background in aerospace, precision manufacturing, or other high‑reliability production environments.
- Exposure to additive manufacturing and its implications for production readiness and inspection/quality planning.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or equivalent) with applied experience improving manufacturing processes using data.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or related quality management standards and documentation expectations.
