Job summary

Mergon is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer for a highly automated blow molding facility. You will support OEE improvements, troubleshoot automation systems, and collaborate with Production and Maintenance to keep production targets met.

The role requires hands-on problem-solving, quick learning, and willingness to work overtime/weekends as needed to maintain smooth operations and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience in blow molding or automated manufacturing is a plus.
• Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn quickly.
• Overtime and weekend availability may be required periodically to ensure production targets.

Responsibilities

• Learn operation and maintenance of ABB robots, Omron PLCs, and other automation systems used in blow molding.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues affecting OEE and production efficiency.
• Lead efforts to improve performance and reliability of automation equipment.
• Assist commissioning, installation, and fine-tuning of automation systems for maximum efficiency.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to introduce new technologies and drive process improvements.
• Provide training and support to team members; stay up-to-date with robotics and automation advances.

This is a hands-on role that demands versatility, quick learning, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. While extensive experience is not required in all areas, a strong technical aptitude and a passion for learning new systems and processes are essential. Availability for overtime and weekend work is required periodically to ensure production runs smoothly.Key ResponsibilityQuickly learn and understand the operation and maintenance of ABB robots, Omron PLCs, and other automation systems used in blow molding.Work closely with Production and Maintenance teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues affecting OEELead efforts to improve the performance and reliability of automation equipment, ensuring smooth and efficient production.Assist in the commissioning, installation, and fine-tuning of automation systems, ensuring optimal setup for maximum efficiency.Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and automation experts to introduce new technologies, troubleshoot existing systems, and drive process improvements.Continuously seek ways to improve machine reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance overall production efficiency.Provide technical training and support to other team members, fostering a collaborative environment for knowledge sharing.Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in robotics, PLC programming, and automation technologies.Be available for overtime and weekend shifts as needed to resolve urgent issues and ensure production targets are met.Key Performance IndicatorsSignificant improvements in OEE, focusing on reducing downtime in highly automated equipment, including robots and PLC systems.Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly, contributing to increased production efficiency and reduced troubleshooting time.Successful implementation of process optimizations that lead to measurable gains in performance and cost savings.A reduction in the frequency and duration of equipment breakdowns through proactive maintenance and problem-solving.4. Decision Making AuthorityThe Manufacturing Engineer has the authority to make decisions related to automation system troubleshooting, equipment improvements, and OEE enhancement initiatives. Significant changes that impact production capacity or involve large investments require higher management approval.Preferred QualificationsTechnical aptitude and a strong willingness to learn quickly, especially in the areas of robotics, PLCs, and other automation systems.A problem-solving mindset with the ability to handle multiple tasks and challenges in a fast-paced production environment.Experience in a blow molding or automated manufacturing facility is a plus but not required.Willingness to work overtime and weekends to address critical production and maintenance issues.The above is not exhaustive.
