Butcher Power Products in California seeks a Manufacturing Electrical Engineer to own wiring and electrical assembly processes for switchboards.
You will translate diagrams into buildable processes, support the assembly line, and drive DFM feedback with engineering. This role emphasizes lean methods, process documentation, and compliance with NEC/UL standards to ensure safe, cost-effective production.
The Manufacturing Electrical Engineer owns the manufacturing process by which Butcher Power Products’ switchboard and switchgear products are wired and electrically assembled. Working from the wiring design group’s released diagrams and panel layouts, the role develops, documents, and continuously improves the processes, tooling, and work instructions that build those products safely, repeatably, and at cost.
It owns the process, not the drawings: design and wiring diagrams stay with Product and Electrical Engineering, and the Assembly team performs the build. The Manufacturing Electrical Engineer is accountable that what ships is built to print, and drives manufacturability and as-built feedback back upstream.
Process Development: Design, implement, and optimize the manufacturing processes, routings, and work instructions that build BPP’s products — translating the wiring design group’s released diagrams into buildable wiring and electrical-assembly processes.
Production Support: Provide hands-on support to the Assembly floor and serve as the engineering escalation point for the wiremen on wiring and troubleshooting issues, driving corrective actions that keep the line producing.
Tooling & Fixtures: Specify, design, and implement tooling and fixtures — including wiring stations, wire-marking, and harness/formboards — and keep them set up, maintained, and calibrated.
Continuous Improvement: Lead Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen initiatives to reduce defects, rework, and cycle time and improve throughput and yield on electrical assembly.
Design for Manufacturability: Partner with Product and Electrical Engineering and the wiring design group at design review to provide electrical DFM feedback before release, and develop the production process for newly released designs (NPI).
Build-to-Print & Design Conformance: Own design conformance for electrical assembly — verify as-built panels and wiring match the released documentation through first-article and in-process checks, and route as-built redlines upstream via ECO (with Quality owning the inspection record).
Process Documentation: Develop and maintain routings, SOPs, work instructions, and process records.
Process Controls & Capability: Own the manufacturing side of wiring PFMEAs and control plans, and support Quality Engineering’s root-cause and corrective/preventive actions.
Data Analysis: Track and act on manufacturing KPIs such as wiring cycle time, scrap/rework, and first-pass yield.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure processes comply with UL 891 (and UL 1008S / UL 1558 as applicable), UL 508A and NFPA 79 wiring practices, the NEC, and ANSI/IEEE, and support UL inspections. Must comply with the company’s safety policies.
