Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled as a student at the University of Texas at Arlington during the co‑op
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite for data analysis, reporting, and documentation
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing engineering concepts, tools, processes, and 3D modeling
  • Available to work 40 hours per week (Mon–Fri, 7:00 am–4:00 pm) January 2027–May 2027 or August 2027
  • Must be within 50 miles of Grand Prairie, TX; no housing or relocation support
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
  • Structured experiential learning program with ongoing enrollment required

Responsibilities

  • Designing tooling, fixtures, and assembly aids to improve safety, quality, productivity, and ergonomics
  • Create 3D CAD models and drawings using Autodesk Inventor
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and production challenges for practical solutions
  • Develop and assess design concepts considering manufacturing, safety, quality, and ergonomic factors
  • Collaborate with production, manufacturing engineering, quality, maintenance, and other stakeholders
  • Support design reviews, prototyping, testing, and validation of manufacturing solutions

We are looking for a Spring 2027 (January - May or August) Manufacturing Design Engineer Co-op as part of the Operations Leadership Development Program with our Smart Infrastructure Electrical Products division. This position is based in Fort Worth, Texas.

This co-op will prepare you for a potential opportunity with our two-year rotational Operations Leadership Development Program and other entry-level roles upon graduation.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Designing and developing tooling, fixtures, and assembly aids that improve safety, quality, productivity, and ergonomics.
  • Creating 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Evaluating manufacturing processes and production challenges to develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Developing and assessing design concepts based on manufacturing, safety, quality, and ergonomic requirements.
  • Collaborating with production, manufacturing engineering, quality, maintenance, and other stakeholders throughout the design process.
  • Supporting design reviews, prototype fabrication, testing, and validation of manufacturing solutions.
  • Implementing and validating tooling and fixtures on the production floor.
  • Applying continuous improvement and problem-solving methods to improve manufacturing processes and productivity.
  • Documenting designs, engineering changes, and implementation activities in accordance with Siemens standards.

Basic Qualifications

  • Juniors, Seniors, and graduate students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Industrial Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related majors
  • Must be enrolled as a student at the University of Texas Arlington at the time of the co‑op
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite for data analysis, reporting, and documentation
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of manufacturing engineering concepts, tools, and processes, as well as 3D modeling
  • Available to work 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm) from January 2027 to May 2027 or August 2027
  • Eligible candidates must have reliable transportation and be located within 50 miles of Grand Prairie, TX as this role does not provide housing or relocation support
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship
  • This co‑op is a structured experiential learning program for individuals currently enrolled in a degree or certificate program who will continue their studies following the assignment. Current and continuing enrollment is a condition of participation. Applicants who have completed or expect to complete their educational program before or during the assignment period are encouraged to explore our Early Career/ Leadership Development opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in or understanding of mechanical design, with exposure to Autodesk Inventor or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical engineering principles, engineering drawings, and design for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, tooling, fixturing, or production environments, including electrical or power distribution manufacturing.
  • Ability to analyze problems, develop design concepts, and evaluate engineering solutions that improve quality, safety, and productivity.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across production and engineering teams and support cross-functional projects.
  • Familiarity with LEAN, continuous improvement, root cause analysis, or basic statistical tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering concepts through coursework, projects, labs, or hands‑on experience.

You’ll Benefit From
The hourly pay range for this position 30.00 - 33.00 per hour, based off of your projected graduation year. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location. Additionally, interns for Siemens are eligible to contribute into our 401K program.
