Job summary

Nbutexas is seeking a Manufacturing Design Engineer in Charlotte, NC to join a hands‑on engineering team developing production tooling and fixtures for unmanned vehicle programs. You will design, prototype, test, and launch tooling and assembly aids for robotic weld stations and other manufacturing processes.

The role requires a bachelor’s in engineering, 2–5 years’ experience, and proficiency with NX CAD. You’ll collaborate with machinists, welders, and production teams to improve

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering (or related field).
  • 2–5 years of professional design or manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience designing tooling, fixtures, jigs, or manufacturing equipment.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (NX) for modeling and drawings.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, machining, welding, and assembly.
  • Ability to interpret GD&T and apply engineering judgment.
  • Hands‑on problem‑solving skills and cross‑functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop production tooling, fixtures, jigs, and assembly aids for robotic welding stations.
  • Modify part designs to optimize manufacturability, assembly, and quality.
  • Collaborate with production personnel to identify challenges and engineer practical solutions.
  • Create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Support standardized process development and continuous improvement activities.
  • Troubleshoot tooling and drive corrective actions through implementation.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams to improve cycle time, ergonomics, and efficiency.
  • Must be eligible to work on ITAR‑regulated programs (U.S. Citizen, PR, or U.S. Person).

Manufacturing Design Engineer Requirements & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 2- 5 years professional design or manufacturing engineering experience
  • Experience designing tooling, fixtures, jigs, or manufacturing equipment
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (NX or related) for modeling and drawings
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, and production methods
  • Ability to interpret GD&T and apply sound engineering judgment
