You will work closely with mechanical design engineers, project managers, manufacturing engineers, and production personnel to develop tooling, fixtures, manufacturing aids, and part modifications that enable efficient, repeatable, and high-quality production.

Summary:

We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Design Engineer to support the production team by designing tooling, fixtures, work holding, and manufacturing aids, as well as modifying existing components to improve manufacturability, quality, efficiency, and ease of assembly.

This role will work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality, and Design Engineering to identify production challenges and develop practical engineering solutions that can be implemented on the shop floor.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop production tooling, fixtures, jigs, work holding, and assembly aids, including specialized fixtures for robotic welding stations.
  • Design and support robot welding fixtures to ensure proper part location, alignment, repeatability, accessibility, and weld quality.
  • Modify existing part designs and drawings to improve manufacturability, assembly, quality, and production efficiency.
  • Work directly with production personnel to identify manufacturing issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Create and maintain 3D models, detailed drawings, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Support the development and implementation of standardized manufacturing processes and work instructions.
  • Troubleshoot tooling, fixture, robot station, and part-related production issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering to ensure part modifications meet functional and engineering requirements.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Production to improve cycle time, repeatability, ergonomics, and overall process capability.
  • Support prototype, pilot, and production builds as required.
  • Assist with the fabrication, testing, installation, and validation of tooling and fixtures.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and identify opportunities to reduce cost, waste, and production downtime.
Qualitication:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
  • Experience designing tooling, fixtures, jigs, or manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, and production methods.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to interpret GD&T and apply sound engineering judgment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on, practical approach.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, welders, machinists, and production personnel.
  • Experience supporting production or prototype manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Experience with robotic welding or welding fixture design preferred.
Computer Skills:
  • NX CAD or related 3D CAD design software experience required.
  • Proficiency in creating 3D models, detailed drawings, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation.

  • Hands-on and comfortable working on the production floor.
  • Able to take a manufacturing problem from identification through design, fabrication, and implementation.
  • Strong attention to detail and a focus on practical, manufacturable solutions.
