Job summary

General Motors Company in Marion, Indiana, is seeking a Manufacturing Controls Engineer to support, improve, and sustain automation and plant-floor control systems within a stamping operation. The role partners with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and IT to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient production.

The engineer will troubleshoot complex controls issues, lead equipment and process improvements, support launches and changes, and apply standardized controls solutions across stamping

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/ Electronics/ Mechanical/ Manufacturing Engineering or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• 3+ years in manufacturing operations, controls engineering, automation, or related field.
• Hands-on with PLC-based automation systems in production.
• Experience with PLC programming, HMI, industrial controls hardware, and machine safety.
• Experience with industrial Ethernet and fieldbus networks.

Responsibilities

• Provide controls ownership for stamping presses, material handlers, conveyors, die-transfer systems, and safety circuits.
• Troubleshoot complex equipment and integration issues; lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Develop, test, validate, and document PLC/HMI/motion/safety changes per GM standards.
• Support uptime, quality, safety, throughput, and cost objectives through controls improvements.
• Lead or support control activities for launches, upgrades, and plant shutdowns.
